Hi I'm Derek

I am about to serve a mission in Melbourne, Australia speaking Mandarin Chinese. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Orem, Utah, the first of 4 children. I have lived all over the United States including in Utah, New Jersey, Texas, Arkansas, and Kansas. I am currently 18 years old and I am preparing to serve a mission in Melbourne, Australia where I will be speaking Mandarin Chinese. I recently graduated from high school and when I return from my mission I plan to go to BYU for college studying engineering. I have many hobbies including playing the piano, drawing, and reading. I have also spent time practicing mixed martial arts in which I achieved the rank of a Blue Belt (about halfway between white and black).

Why I am a Mormon

I love this gospel. Though I grew up as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I have been able to find my own conversion and gain a strong testimony of the restored gospel on the Earth today. I have been able to gain a strong testimony of my Savior and of His Atonement as I have been able to repent and overcome my mistakes. As I have come to know my Redeemer, I want to be able to share the knowledge and testimony I have with others.

How I live my faith

Before my mission, I had many opportunities to give service in and out of church. Since I am an Eagle Scout, one such example is my Eagle Project where I conducted a food drive for elementary schools and a cannery in the area. I have also had many opportunities to serve and teach in the church. I have been able to teach the youth classes multiple times and have also been able to speak in church. As mentioned before, I am now preparing to serve a mission.
