Hi I'm Dwayne Cloar

I was born in Tennessee and was raised in the Baptist Church. I am a new convert to the Church . I was baptized on May 7, 2016.

About Me

I am a father of 4, 3 girls and 1 boy. I work for the Boy Scouts of America. I enjoy singing, reading , running and working out.

Why I am a Mormon

I have worked for the Boy Scouts of America for 15 years. This has allowed me to work directly with volunteers that are members of the church. Two years ago I was able to go to Salt Lake City for a Scout training. I was able to visit the temple square and sit in on choir practice. When I came back home, I began to work on starting a cub scout program in the ward. I met with the parents of cub scout aged boys and potential leadership. I discussed the benefits of scouting and my experiences in Salt Lake and with my relationship with church members. One of the members of the church told me that night that I was a Mormon but just did not know it. She then informed the missionaries that they needed to meet me. They reached out on Facebook and we began meeting. I met with two missionaries for several months. One of the missionaries was transferred out and Elder Peterson transferred in. I did not like him that first day because he was very bold and aggressive. Reflecting back now, it is what needed to happen. I began to pray with purpose and intent and sought specific answers. The missionaries asked me to write down 5-6 specific questions before the general conference. God answered those questions specifically. Soon after that I was given a blessing by the elders. I felt overwhelming peace. I was able to let go of so much anxiety and past mistakes. I was asked to sing at a baptism for one of the cub scouts. After that baptism, I had a dream about being baptized by Elder Peterson. I committed to baptism soon after that. I knew that God intended for Elder Peterson to baptize me. He was possibly looking at a transfer two weeks before my baptism. The Sunday before transfer, we were informed that the mission president intended on moving Elder Peterson. He had him transferred on paper. He stated that he could not get a peace about the transfer and decided that he needed to stay in Statesville. I know that this was confirmation that I was doing the right thing.

How I live my faith

I am still a new convert and do not have an official calling in the church yet. I enjoy singing and have participated in specials and sing with the choir. I have a very flexible schedule and this allows me to help the missionaries. I am able to provide them transportation and meals. I have been attending teaching lessons with the missionaries. This has helped me to continue to learn and share my testimony. I also feel that this allows me to serve the church, missionaries and families. I also help with the Scouting program when possible.
