Hi I'm Devon Gunnell

I am a huge nerd, i love music, playing video games, hanging with friends, being with my family, and i am a Mormon.

About Me

well i am 19 years old and i am currently serving a mission in Richmond, Virginia. A mission was something that i feared and was very excited about at the same time. I love being around my family and friends and i am very close with my relatives and extended family, so leaving and going on a mission for 2 years was something that was hard for me. Also i am a huge fanatic when it comes to video games, i love every kind of video game. I think the best thing i did to prepare me to serve a mission was working with my dad for 4 years at our tire shop. The reason for that being is I was able to interact with strangers, help them to the best of my ability, and really learn how to serve. Some other interests of mine are wrestling, i think it is not only a great form of exercise but it also just relaxes me and calms me down. In high school i made jewelry for over a year and loved every moment of it, making a ring from a blob of wax and it later turning out to be a silver shiny ring is very fun and satisfying. I love playing all sports (not professionally) and just having a good time. My life dream is to be a dad haha, sounds cliche but in all honesty its what i have always wanted.

Why I am a Mormon

Well i have been a member for over 11 years and was baptized when i was 8 years old. Obviously at 8 years old i didn't have a full understanding of the church but i felt that it was the right thing for me. later on in my life i had the opportunity to travel on a National Jamboree in 2013 and on the Jamboree we visited this place called "The Sacred Grove", in upstate New York. Well that is the same location that Joseph Smith who was a young boy at the age of 14. In 1820 Joseph Smith offered up a prayer to Heavenly Father wanting to know which of the churches at the time were true. He then had a miraculous experience and was called by Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ to restore Christs church which had been lost so long ago. Joseph Smith later was called as a prophet and restored "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints" back on the earth 10 years later in 1830. Now me being 16 at the time and being a member of the church, it seemed everyone had a testimony of the church and knew it was true. I had a testimony but unfortunately still had doubts in my mind and thought that out of all the places to know if this was the true church, (the same place heavenly father and Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith) this was the best place to ask and know for myself. I still to this day will never be able to describe to anyone the feeling i got after i asked if The church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was the true church. By the power of the Holy Ghost i was able to find out for myself the truth of the LDS church and i have 0 doubts today that this is the true and only church on earth. I love this gospel, i love Christs church, and i love that i will be able to be sealed to my family for all of time and eternity!!!

How I live my faith

well i live my faith by looking for every opportunity to interact with strangers. I love meeting new people, and helping in any way that i can. Currently i serve a full time mission in the Richmond, Virginia mission and i dedicate my full time, and attention to serving the lord and his children (meaning you, me and everyone else). Teaching and sharing the gospel has opened up a world i never really considered, and it has changed me for the better. My plans for when i return home is to spread the experiences that i have been through, and to be an example of how Jesus Christ would live. He set the tone of how we should act and the people we should become, so we have 0 excuses of how we need to be living our lives.

What is the Book of Mormon?

Devon Gunnell
The Book of Mormon is holy scripture that is comparable to the bible, now this doesn't mean that it takes away from the bible, but that they go hand in hand with each other. It is also another testament of Jesus Christ, its whole goal is to help you come closer to Jesus Christ and shows us that God still communicates with us through Prophets. Show more Show less
