Hi I'm Mat

I grew up in California. I love trying and learning to do new things. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm currently serving a mission in Italy. When I was back home I worked two jobs so I could save money for going on this mission and for college after. I loved doing physical things, running, biking, hiking and swimming is how I felt productive and had fun. Also for three years I loved riding motorcycles above anything else, but then I got in a serious accident on my way to college and it impaired me from being able to do any athletic things, so I had to find other hobbies. After being bored for a few months after I got out of the hospital, I searched for other things I could do that I would enjoy. That's when I found out I really enjoy making things with my hands, specifically with metal and wood. I tried my hand at some carpentry and blacksmithing for a year before my mission and had a lot of fun making all kinds of things. Now I'm serving a mission and it's even better! Sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with others every day is the best most fulfilling thing I've ever done.

Why I am a Mormon

I've chosen to be a member of the church through a long process of study and prayer to know for myself what is true and how I should be living my life. Through reading the scriptures that we've been given, earnestly praying, and pondering I was able to receive an answer. One night I was reading the Book of Mormon in Mosiah and something I read touched me in a way I can't describe. I felt the spirit incredibly strong, and in that moment I knew that the book was truly from God. Because of that I knew the man that translated it, Joseph Smith, must have been a prophet and that he saw what he said he saw. I knew that there is a God, and that he loves us and he looks after us still. Nothing has made my life happier in the two years sense then, than coming closer to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and trying to live my life as they want. I've seen more blessings in my life than I can even remember. Once we abandon the plan we have for ourselves and instead hold on wholeheartedly to the plan Heavenly Father has for us, we will experience a peace that can only be found through Him.

How I live my faith

I try to live my life as Christ-like as I can. Just recognizing that we are all brothers and sisters, and sons and daughters of God, does a lot to give me valuable perspective on life. It gives me the ability to forgive more readily, not take offence, and have patience with others that I wouldn't have otherwise. The more I share the word of God with others and try to live it the best I can, the easier it is to see the blessings that our Heavenly Father gives to me and to others, and the easier it is to recognize and love the life guidance we've been given through commandments and scriptures and prophets.
