Hi I'm Terry

I live in Beautiful Seattle. I am a husband and a Dad to 3 beautiful daughters. I am a Police Officer and I am a Mormon

About Me

I was born in Boise Idaho but moved with my family to Los Angeles when I was 9 yrs old. I was born a member of the LDS church but like anyone should, I had to work hard to earn my testimony of the truthfulness of this wonderful church. I have 3 brothers and two sisters and am now a husband of a wonderful wife and 3 grown lovely daughters. My youngest is serving a mission in the Adriatic South Mission and she will be home soon. I was a dedicated athlete in high school and college. I served a full time mission after college in Brazil and I have been a Police Officer for over 30 years in California and Washington and the Lord has guided me and protected me through this sometimes dangerous adventure. I knew when I chose this profession it could be dangerous physically but even more so spiritually. I also knew that the Lord has a great love for me and that if I stayed humble and obedient that He would keep me spiritually safe. The Lord has literally provided me answers to my prayers, many on the moment spiritual promptings along with many tender mercies that have guided me and kept me safe in many very dangerous situations. I have learned to love and have great compassion for people because I have seen so many sad situations but I know He lives, loves me and answers personal prayers and pleas for assistance. As I prepare now to retire it is my hope to serve one or more missions.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because at the age of 12 I had my first spiritual witness through the Holy Ghost that this church is the vehicle that the Savior Jesus Christ has chosen to bring salvation to all of us who are not perfect. As I was deciding if I should serve a mission or not I read the Book of Mormon from cover to cover. I had already read the New Testament and a lot of the Old Testament. I put the promise given in the Book of Mormon to the test and I prayed to know if it was the Word of God as is the Bible. Heavenly Father heard and answered my prayers. He let me know that I was truly one of His Spirit sons and that He loved me. He let me know that His Son Jesus Christ is my Savior and paid the price for my sins if I would repent. He let me know that Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon and that Joseph was the chosen prophet to restore His true church. I then knew I could serve a mission and testify to the things that I know to be true. Since that time I have received countless additional spiritual witnesses of the truth and all the things I should be doing in my life. My simple faith has grown into a strong testimony of this Church and the Savior who guides it. No matter what dumb things I say and do I know that I can be forgiven because of the Saviors grace and love for me. What a feeling that is to know that I can always live with hope for the future without having any fear of the past.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying very hard to love others, have compassion for their situations and do the best I can to serve them. I find that most of the time people need a listening caring ear as much as they need physical service or help and that once they know they are loved they will listen to what makes us different and want to know why we care so much. This always provides an opportunity to share a testimony of the Savior and His love for us and why I am a member of His church. I have worked in the church youth and adult Mens programs trying to provide service and teaching opportunities as best as I can. I will talk to anyone who wants to listen about the gospel and tell them why faith in Christ is the best thing they can ever have to assure themselves of happiness in this life.

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Terry
I knew by prayer that I was not perfect and that by committing sin I was disqualified to be in the presence of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ for eternity because of their perfect nature. Also by answer to prayer I learned that a perfect and loving Savior Jesus Christ paid the price of my sins and made it possible by His atonement for sin in Gethsemane, His voluntary death on the cross and by His resurrection that I could live with Him forever. Having that knowledge I felt I had to serve a mission and tell everyone who would listen what I knew to be true. That is why missionaries proselyte. So many people are sad and weighed down by the hopelessness of the world and they believe they are not deserving of love and happiness because of past mistakes. The most exciting thing I have seen in my life is the light, tears and happiness that comes to the eyes of people when they hear the good news that Jesus Christ paid the price for ALL of their sins and mistakes. They can have hope for the future and know they can be guilt free in this life and ready for when they get to meet the Savior when this mortal life is over. We get to tell them they can be with the ones they love the most in this life for eternity and that no matter what sadness and pain they have the Savior will one day make it right and His happiness will replace all of their sadness. They can know the complete truth and to be a missionary that gets to share that and see the change in their lives is why we proselyte. Show more Show less
