Hi I'm Austin

I live in and love Portland, OR. I love music and the guitar. I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints!

About Me

I love music. I'm a passionate fan of a myriad of rock and alternative bands and love living amid the fantastic Portland indie scene. I play the guitar and like writing music. I'm privileged to live in one of the most beautiful places in America. I love taking in the views and the waterfalls. I enjoy fishing for steelhead and salmon in our wild rivers and hunting elk in the mountains. There's nothing quite like being out in the creation of God, everywhere you look, He is there. I work in a call center, it's nothing too glamorous but it does a good job paying for my expenses and allowing me to save money, and I enjoy all my co-workers! I just recently graduated from high school and will be traveling in October to Peru, Bolivia and (potentially) Argentina to serve a mission for the church for two years.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe that this church is true. I believe in priesthood power being restored to the earth, I believe that Jesus Christ is the leader of the church. I know that He atoned for our sins, and that through Him we can progress and be given all that our Heavenly Father desires to give us. He desires to give us all that He has! That is amazing to me, that God loves us so much as to desire to give us everything, despite our weakness and frailty. I know that without Jesus Christ I will never be able to live with God. Every one of us needs Christ, because whether we are generally good or generally bad, we are still on the same level. That is, none of us are able to live in the presence of God without Christ's atonement. I believe that Christ has revealed another testimony of Him in the Book of Mormon. I believe that He did minister to ancient inhabitants of the Americas, and that He was referring to them, among others, when He spoke of his "other sheep." I know that when I live the commandments of God, I am happy. I know that no difficulty that I have will ever be of such a magnitude as to dim the joy I will posses when I will be able to live with my family, with our Father, in the Celestial Kingdom. I know that through the sealing power, marriages can last for an eternity and families can be together forever. I know that this God's work, and that is why I seek to live its teachings.

How I live my faith

As I mentioned above, I am going to serve a mission. I am living my faith as I do this. Mormons believe that priesthood power, the power of God given to men to operate His church on the earth, was restored through Joseph Smith. As a result of this we are led by a living prophet today, Thomas S. Monson, and a Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Through these prophets, the Lord has directed young men who bear the priesthood to serve missions and bring souls unto Christ. This is one of the most important things I have done in my life so far, and I am thrilled to being it, I can't wait! I also serve in my local ward as a secretary in my youth group, as the pianist in priesthood meetings, and as a member of the Stake Youth Committee. This committee plans activities and ministry efforts for the youth in my city and a few bordering ones. All of these positions are ones I was called to by my priesthood leaders, and I do them as a volunteer. I really enjoy serving in the Church, it is a wonderful use of my time.

What do Mormons believe about Jesus Christ? Do Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God?

Austin
We believe that Jesus Christ is the center of everything. Without Him, we would have no chance of returning to our Heavenly Father. All of us sin and are imperfect; this is something that comes with the right to make our own choices and allows us to be able to learn and grow, however none of us can fulfill the Father's plan for us as a result of our sin. God sent Jesus Christ to the earth to live a perfect, mortal life and to take upon Himself all of the sins, trials, despairs and sorrows of the world. He did this as he prayed in Gethsemane and on the cross. He was resurrected after three days in the tomb, which gives all of us the gift of immortality and a body that will be without flaw and weakness. Christ was born of the virgin Mary, and is literally the Son of God. As we repent, Jesus will cleanse us, heal us, and enable us to lead better lives, lives that will allow us to inherit the Kingdom of God. He can help us overcome our struggles and gain closure. All that is unfair about life can be made right through Jesus Christ if we will come unto Him. Truly, it is by the Grace of Jesus Christ that we are saved, for without Him, we can be nothing. But through Him, we will live forever and can become everything our Heavenly Father wants us to be. Show more Show less
