Hi I'm Michelle

I was born and raised in San Francisco, California. I'm wanting to be a mechanical engineer and a mother. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college student receiving my degree in mechanical engineering. It's very hard to go into such a field dominated with males while still having the aspiration to be a mother and a home-care taker. I sew, cook and babysit for ward members and family friends while still finding time to design and build mechanical devices. I am a huge nerd, yet a children's entertainer. It is pretty hard juggling me desires and dreams.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was a baby, I was baptized in the Catholic church. I rarely went to church meetings in the Catholic church, however, my mom converted to the Mormon church. As I went each week, I got excited about what I heard and learned in the meetings. Then after I was baptized, I quickly started reading the Book of Mormon and eventually all the books. As I watched my mainly Catholic family members, I started to see poor choices and unhappiness in their lives. They made their decisions, so I decided I had to choose for myself if this church was the path I wanted to go down. Many years later I left for college and didn't have anyone there to help me in my choices. I turned to the Lord and a close friend, I was able to figure out the desires of my heart. I know the Gospel is true and Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are alive. They live today to bless all of us as we listen to him. Following the commands gives greater freedom and control of one's self. The scriptures are a great testament to God's power and his mercy. We can become clean through him as we forsake our sins and turn to the Lord.

How I live my faith

In my student ward, I play piano every Sunday during church. The hymns in the book bring such a strong spirit to the meeting and I am grateful to be the one to do that in the meeting. As i practice for an hour a day, my goal is to eventually learn to play all the hymns in the song book.

Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

Mormons believe that it is called of God that men hold the priesthood in the church. This does not mean that women are restricted from the powers of the priesthood. This priesthood is used to bless every member and serve as God's power on the Earth. Women are able to receive blessings, saving ordinances and feel God's power even if they don't possess it. Mormon women lead the church in many ways. The relief society has a huge affect on the ward and they go out and serve those around them. Women also help their husbands and sons to be worthy to hold the priesthood and use it worthily. Show more Show less

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Mormons believe that all worthy, willing and able young men should submit their papers and go on a mission. However, physical circumstances can make the ability to go on a mission difficult or almost impossible. Young women are also encouraged to serve as they are willing and able. These young people need to be spiritually, physically and emotionally prepared to serve missions. As these young men and women serve, their family, friends and themselves will be greatly blessed.
