Hi I'm Abigail Valenta

I'm a Mormon

About Me

I am from Nicholasville, Kentucky. I am 19 years old, and I am currently a student at Brigham Young University - Idaho. I am majoring in Public Health and Medical Assisting. I have been called to the Arizona Tempe Mission, Spanish speaking!

Why I am a Mormon

Both of my parents were converts to the Church when they were younger. Therefore, I grew up in the Church. I always went to church and listened to the lessons. I always heard of people saying how often they felt the peace of the Spirit in their everyday lives. I was confused, because I didn't recall feeling the Spirit very often. The times I did, were few and far between. But, I held each of those moments very near and dear. I realized that I was kind of going off of everyone else's testimonies, rather than striving to gain my own. I started searching the scriptures, and actually trying to listen to the speakers in church. I found that as I was striving to come closer to Christ, He comes closer to you in return. As I went to my first year of college, I had to make a personal decision to keep up with church attendance, reading my scriptures and saying daily prayers. My parents weren't going to be there to push me to keep going to church, or to read my scriptures. I had to make that choice on my own. I didn't keep up very well with praying or reading the scriptures, and I quickly realized I was distancing myself from the Savior. I cleaned up my act, and made a daily habit of prayer and scripture study. Ever since I made the choice to create those habits, I feel the companionship of the Spirit in my daily life. I know this church is true. I know that the Lord loves us unconditionally. He wants us to come back to Him. And with this beautiful gospel, we can someday.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by striving to serve and help others. At my ward in Idaho, I was a teacher for a class called Gospel Doctrines. I would teach certain highlights of the gospel each week, and help others to understand them better. I absolutely love to help people. I have coached a middle school volleyball team for the past 2 years, and have enjoyed every minute of it. I love sharing the light of the gospel with my team, even if it is in an indirect way. I know that if I can strive to be an example to my players and even to everyone I meet, I can help to share this beautiful gospel.
