Hi I'm Mike Walker

I grew up in Utah but have lived in Texas for 32 years. I recently retired from IBM and will soon be serving as a Sr Missionary.

About Me

I was born in Utah and moved to Texas over 30 years ago after graduating from BYU. Between my wife and I, we have 9 children, 26 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren spread out over 5 states. We spend as much time as possible traveling and spending time with family. When at home I enjoy woodworking, golf (when I can), serving in my church calling and working on my computers. I recently retired and my wife and I have always planned to serve a church mission together. This dream will come true later this year (2016) as we leave for Singapore to serve for 23 months. What a great opportunity we have to serve the Lord full time for 23 months.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up in Utah, both my parents were members of the church and I was baptized into the church by my father when I was eight years old and was taught about the church and Christ by a loving mother and many church leaders. I think I have always had a testimony of the church and can't pinpoint a specific time when I gained a testimony. To quote President Thomas S Monson (President of the church); "I don't know when I first obtained it. I think it came step by step, from goodly parents." I know while serving a mission in California at the age of 19/20, my testimony was solidified and I learned the importance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our lives. I have always tried to live my life in a way that would be pleasing to my parents, the Savior and our Father in Heaven. Doing so has provided me with great strength and direction as I have faced the challenges that come with this life. I can not imagine living the this world and the challenges we all face without the Gospel of Jesus Christ which is found in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This is especially true as I was married for time and eternity in the Salt Like City Temple, raised a family, watched my wife fight a good fight against a brain tumor (a fight she lost), remarried and gained additional children and grand children I have learned to love as my own. What a blessing this gospel is in good times and in challenging times. It puts all things in the proper and an eternal perspective. This gospel is true and the Savior provides the only way to true happiness. His church is on the earth today and is lead by Prophets and Apostles who speak for him. The Savior suffered all things for us. He loves us...He feels our pain and sorrow...He atoned for our sins and provides the only way back to our Heavenly Father.

How I live my faith

Having served in many church positions, I have witnessed many in my family and circle of friends who have lived by faith and have been examples of faith by the way they live and the way they serve others. Having seen them face challenges in their life and having had my share of challenges in my life. I have learned that faith in the Savor and his gospel plan can help you deal with those things that life has to throw at you.
