Hi I'm Joshua Barlow

I grew up in Utah, I'm going on a mission to Long Beach, California, and I enjoy reading and writing books. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a recent high school graduate. I am planning on going to college and becoming a computer programmer. I'm also an amateur writer, and write stories that I hope will someday become books in my spare time.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it is true, and if it's true, that means that the only way to salvation is through activity and membership in this Church. I am a Mormon for my own sake. I will go on a mission for the sake of others.

How I live my faith

I am serving a mission in the Long Beach, California area.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Joshua Barlow
The Atonement of Jesus Christ is, in simple terms, the period of time during which Jesus Christ became the Savior, taking upon himself not only the sins and mistakes of all mankind past, present, and future, but also where he experienced on a personal level the individual pains and struggles that we all go through, from a broken leg to a failed test. Jesus Christ needed to sacrifice His life that the chains of death might be broken by one who did not have to die, but chose to, for only such could rise from the dead and lead all mankind to do likewise. Why do you have 12 Apostles? They were just meant to be around for the time of Jesus Christ, not to be replaced with new apostles.

Joshua Barlow
Other Apostles were chosen after some of the Twelve died, and more would have been able to be ordained if it was required, but the will of God at that time was, for reasons I can't fully explain, for his true gospel and his prophets to be taken from the Earth. Show more Show less

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

Joshua Barlow
In court, a testimony is given by witnesses of true events or facts, usually having to do with some wrongdoing. A testimony in this context is a witness of what we know of God, his Church, and the resulting practices and doctrines. Show more Show less

What is the role of the husband and the wife in the family?

Joshua Barlow
The husband's role is to provide and protect his family, as well as raise his children in righteousness as a worthy priesthood holder. The wife's role is to nurture the family, especially the children, and give council to the husband when needed, which he is at peril to ignore. Show more Show less

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Joshua Barlow
The Book of Mormon was written by a collection of ancient men, mainly prophets, and was handed down from person to person until it came into the hands of Mormon, who wrote most of what we know as the Book of Mormon. It was completed by his son, Moroni, and translated into the English language by Joseph Smith, Jr. Show more Show less

How can faith in Jesus Christ influence us in our marriages and family relationships? in our friendships?

Joshua Barlow
Whenever problems arise in marriages, family relationships, even friendships, it is often a result of being less than Christ-like. Faith in Jesus Christ motivates us to be more like him to avoid many problems, and to be patient through them when they problems are not a result of human error. Show more Show less

Is it true that Jesus appeared in North America after his crucifixion and resurrection according to the Book of Mormon?

Joshua Barlow
Yes, Jesus Christ did in fact visit the American continent, and among them did what he did when he was in ancient Israel. That is, he healed the sick, called twelve disciples, taught his Gospel--including the Sermon on the Mount, without the mountain--and everything else he did in Israel, except people didn't try to kill him in America.
