Hi I'm Jessica

I live in Portland, Oregon. I love books, music, and all things medical. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm the youngest of four children. I'm studying Linguistics and going pre-med in college. I want to go to medical school and become an OB/GYN, potentially a fetal surgeon. I've played the piano since I was seven and I also play the alto saxophone. I really enjoy going to concerts; some of my favorite bands are Jimmy Eat World, Death Cab for Cutie, and Mumford and Sons. I love books (especially Harry Potter) and brilliant writing. Ravenclaw for life. I'm also a huge Shonda Rhimes and Gilmore Girls fan. #TeamJess. I'm a pretty hard core feminist, and I want to travel the world. Rain makes me happy.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; however, I choose to be a Mormon, first off, because of all the practical benefits that come with living the Church's standards. If I follow the Word of Wisdom, I won't get addicted to drugs, alcohol, or coffee. If I follow the Law of Chastity, I won't get STDs and I won't have an unwanted pregnancy. Second, I choose to be a Mormon because of the character traits it teaches. Following the Law of Tithing has made me a more generous person, and because of the principles the Church promotes, I always try to be honest and kind. Third, I choose to be a Mormon because I know the Church is true. I've read The Book of Mormon multiple times, I've prayed about it, and I know that along with the Bible, The Book of Mormon is the word of God. I know that prayer works. You may not get the answer you want or when you want it but it will come. It always comes. I know that there is a living prophet on the earth today who will help us know what God wants us to do and will help us get back to Him someday. I know that through temples, we can be with our families for eternity. I know that Jesus Christ lived and died for all of us and that through Him, we can all be forgiven and resurrected. I know that we all have a loving Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother who only want the best for us. I choose to be a Mormon because I cannot deny the feeling of assurance I have when I follow what the gospel teaches.

How I live my faith

I live a pretty normal life. I go to college and I work. But every Sunday, I don't work and I try not to study or do my homework so that I can make Sunday the Lord's day. I go to church and I participate in the church choir on Sundays. I currently teach the four-year-old children at church. I try to pray and read my scriptures every day, and I try to help and serve people as much as I can.
