Hi I'm Jonathan Hanks

I've grown up in Springville, Utah almost my whole life. I am serving a mission in Bangkok, Thailand. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the middle child of five in our family and I absolutely love my family. I have learned from my parents the importance of hard work since as long as I can remember as I have worked countless jobs to pay for all of my mission, my own schooling, and even my own clothing. I have worked at different restaurants and a bakery serving food, cleaning dishes, and even cooking. I have also worked on a farm which was one of my favorite jobs because it was by far the most rewarding at the end of the day. I love to serve others in every way that I can. I love sports as well. From a very young age I have learned from my dad the basics of just about any sport you can think of from basketball to baseball to football to golf and to tennis. I self taught myself a lot of things from each sport and worked very hard and always had the dream of going pro. One of the hardest things I ever did was build a house from the ground up with my family. We owned a property that we couldn't sell and so we decided to build a house on it, and we literally built it ourselves, well, my dad and I did. It was so hard managing school and social life and work and building the house, but it was really hard work and I loved it. And when we finished, it felt so rewarding. I also love to bike. I have been biking since I was very little and got into biking more seriously in the last couple of years, and I can say that I successfully completed a 100 mile ride that I did in the middle of the night.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are real beings and that they desire for us, their children to return to live with them after our life here on earth, and I have learned this and know it to be true because of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Let me put it in a more simple way. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is a Christian Church which I love, but what sets it apart from any other Christian Church is that it contains all of the truth of God and his plan for his children. Whereas, all of the other Churches have part of the truth, and part of the answers. I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and I know that he is my Savior, and he came to redeem the world of its sins, and because I know this, this is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I love the gospel of Jesus Christ, and as a result I am dedicated to living the teachings of Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father. I do so by reading my scriptures every day, praying to Heavenly Father every day, attending religious classes that are focused on Christ, going to the temple, and of course attending church each week to partake of the holy sacrament and to draw closer to Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father. I have loved attending church youth activities where I can interact with youth that share my same standards and values and beliefs. In the church, I have served in many different capacities including home teaching where I have the opportunity to become familiar with some local families and serve them and give them support when they need it. As a part of being a part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I have the wonderful opportunity to leave my normal life and serve as a missionary. I have been called by Heavenly Father through the Prophet, Thomas S. Monson, to serve in Bangkok Thailand. I look forward to my service and I pray that I can bring many people unto Christ be converted to the full truth, which is what the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has to offer.

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

Jonathan Hanks
Mormons are normal! We live normal lives, have normal jobs, talk about normal things like football and good food. The thing that sets us apart is our Faith, which has a lot tied to it but is what makes us happy and successful and ultimately hopeful about everything in life. We have different standards than those of most other people in the world, but these standards we have help us to live clean, stable, and happy lives. Show more Show less
