Hi I'm Decker Ure

I grew up in Cupertino. I just graduated high school. I love Kpop and I'm a mormon

About Me

As a recent high school graduate, I have just started to learn about who I am. Just this last year I discovered Kpop from a friend and I really enjoy listening to the music and doing the dances with my friends. I love being spontaneous, which usually involves late night food runs and random trips to the beach. Although I happen to get out of the house often, I still consider myself more of a home body who often curls up on his bed just watching my favorite shows until I get a craving to do something. I am going to serve a mission in Ireland and afterwards will be attending college at BYU.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents have always been members of the church, but I do not think that growing up in the church really makes it true for you. I think that everyone that has grown up in the church or converts the church has a specific turning point that makes them feel like the church is true. As a kid I attended primary classes that taught a lot of the basic ideas of the church. However I still had to make a choice as to wether I believed what my teachers were telling me or not. When I was about 11 years old, I had a very special experience that made me decide that the church was true. I was asked to share a brief message about Joseph Smith in my primary class. I spent an hour or so thinking of what to say for the two minutes or so I was expected to talk. When I got up and began to share my talk with the others in the class I felt a very powerful confirmation from the spirit in my heart that what I was saying was true. At that moment I knew that Joseph Smith was a true prophet and that the Book of Mormon was a true book. This experience was a basis of all my belief in the church and has guided me my entire life. Because I knew those two things I have been able to continue to grow and get a personal feeling that I know many other things. I know that the church is true and I cannot deny that knowledge and so that is why I am a Mormon

How I live my faith

Growing up, there were not many other members my age around me. The main way I was able to live my faith was by being different from those around me. I would surprise a lot of people when I tell them that I go to a church class to study the scriptures every day before school or when I refused tea and coffee when we went out to eat. I was able to talk to my friends a lot about what I believe. I also live my faith in a more private way. As a young man I had the office of priest in the church. This meant that I could preform certain ordinances for others in the church. I worked hard to keep myself clean and worthy to preform those ordinances. I find it really important to be worthy of the trust and power God has given me by being clean both in my public and private life. I am also able to do small things like visit some lonely families or clean up someone's yard that make me feel like I help make other people's lives happier. That feeling makes me feel really happy too.
