Hi I'm Sydney Marilyn Dirks

Hiiiii!!!!!!!!! I'm from Indiana, I take care of my Grammy and plan to go on a mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hi!!!! My name is Sydney! (: my two favorite things in life are music and The Gospel. I play multiple instruments and love to read. I work and am currently saving up to go on a mission in a year and a half. After my mission I plan to attend school at BYU Idaho and hopefully become a teacher. I love to laugh and just enjoy life. I also really enjoy watching movies, however I tend to get a bit emotional when watching them. I play volleyball and when I was younger was forced to learn to dance properly (ballroom), which I suppose isn't necessarily a bad thing. I enjoy going to church, Sunday is my favorite day of the week and I LOVE going to the temple. Family History is also a very big thing with me.

Why I am a Mormon

I didn't grow up as a member of The Church. I am a convert. I moved to Indiana to help my Grandmother (who is a member) and had no intention of joining but after my first Sunday I knew I had to do some research. So I talked to the missionaries, and did A LOT of research and prayed A LOT. Everything the LDS Church stands for is everything that I have argued with my mother for years about. I always knew it was right I just didn't know where I was getting the correct information from. I came from a broken home and when my parents got a divorce I moved with my mom and step dad which also wasn't the best of environments. It was like I was trapped in a thick fog, everything was holding me down and I felt like I'd never get away, but then I moved here and found The Church. My mother doesn't speak much to me anymore but after I joined, everything immediately turned around and I have never been happier. The Church has opened new things to me that I didn't know were available to someone like me. They value family and The Gospel unlike any church I've ever known and I don't know what I would do if I ever had that taken from me. I'm very excited to grow closer to Christ through The Church and cannot wait to go on a mission in a year and a half!

How I live my faith

So...my calling is a primary worker, I teach 4 and 5 year old children the joys of the Gospel of Jesus Christ! I love helping out with that. I'm also big on sharing my faith with anyone who will listen and I bring it up in conversations with people I know as much as possible. I believe the best way to live faith is to always strive to spread it because as you help people gain faith yours will go stronger.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Sydney Marilyn Dirks
So the Word of Wisdom is like a "do not" list for what we should not put into our bodies. "Our body is a precious gift from God..." (D&C 89:1-21). So basically we do not consume Tobacco, Alcohol, Coffee, Tea, or and Illegal Drugs. God promises us great blessings for following the Word of Wisdom and even now, the Scientific Community is putting out more studies about these things and how they are bad for our bodies, just like Heavenly Father revealed to the prophet Joseph Smith two centuries ago.
