Hi I'm Othon Patrick Hamill

I'm from and love the Pacific Northwest. I'm a statistics junkie. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I'm the second of four children and grew up in Washington State. I absolutely love it there. I spent every weekend or night I could out doing something. I'm an avid fly-fisher and hiker. Nature fascinates me. I love how a massive the scope of the earth is and how even the simplest views, objects or situations can be broken down into so many complex pieces. I search for patterns there and in my own life. I followed loving patterns and now am studying statistics and analytics at BYU. I've been called to the Richmond Virginia Mission speaking Spanish recently. I'll be serving June 2016 - June 2018

Why I am a Mormon

I've loved numbers and patterns ever since I was a kid. So science, math and statistics are very appealing to me. But learning through the Gospel isn't a game of numbers. My decisions are based not in the scientific rationale but in the arenas of faith and promptings given through the Holy Ghost to me. That's another kind of knowing. A different epistemology. And I know that those feelings that confirmed to me the validity of what I was taught as a child were real. I personally felt them. The burning warmth inside of me. And I know that you can feel it too. Don't take my word for it, please learn of it yourself. Pray and ask for your confirmation. "If any of ye lack in wisdom, let them ask in faith".

How I live my faith

Love and service. It's that simple. I'm no spiritual giant. I'm not winning a gospel discussion anytime soon. But I know love and I know service. So I stick to those. I'm back home for the summer before I leave and not here for long so I don't have a calling. As a result I spend Sundays substituting for teachers for their sunday school or primary classes and participate in every service project that I can.
