Hi I'm Steve

I was born and raised in Chicago. I was baptized when I was 37. I'm definitely a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the Chicago area and enjoyed a career in public education. I recently retired as a school technology specialist in Utah. I met my wife at a reading instruction class in 1981 and was married seven years later. During our extended courtship, my wife introduced me to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She tried her best to convert me to her faith while I did my best to convince her to abandon hers. Thankfully, she prevailed, and that outcome has made all the difference in my life. I love my wife and three children, love my service in the Mormon church, and am looking forward to serving a senior couple mission in South Africa in the near future. Along with family and church, my personal interests include backpacking, cross country skiing, gardening, reading, and working in my shop.

Why I am a Mormon

Prior to joining the church, my life had little direction. On the surface I appeared confident, but inside I was struggling to find answers to life's meaning and the purpose of my existence. I had no consistent answers to the questions of: Where did I come from? Why was I here? and Where was I going? When I finally opened my heart and mind to the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, I found answers to these questions, and my life's course dramatically changed. I am a Mormon because living the teachings of the church brings me closer to God and increases my desire to serve him. This has brought a depth of fulfillment and happiness into my life that I cannot adequately describe. These feelings deepen every day I try my best to live in accordance with God's will, follow the example of his son, Jesus Christ, and serve others.

How I live my faith

I have enjoyed serving in many church positions since my conversion 28 years ago. All of them have stretched my abilities and deepened my faith in Jesus Christ. Currently, I'm serving in the Sunday school, and this has been one of the most challenging and rewarding positions I've held. Developing and teaching lessons that invite the spirit, are faith promoting, and provide opportunities for changing lives takes a lot of time and effort. But the rewards are incomparable. There is nothing more fulfilling to me than serving in a church where every position focuses on helping people learn about Christ and follow his example.
