Hi I'm Vicki

I grew up in Houston and joined the Church when I was eleven years old. I love being a Mormon and have such joy in living!

About Me

Aloha! I live on Molokai in Hawaii. My husband and I have raised six children and are blessed indeed to have sixteen grandchildren to keep us young. Since my children have grown-up, I have worked as a crisis social worker and taught in the schools. My best job ever was being a performing arts teacher in grade school to children from pre-school through six grade. I love children and youth! I love camping, hiking, reading, and giving service to others. I do a lot of volunteer work and try to stay involved in my community. Life is good...simple...and rewarding.

Why I am a Mormon

That is easy....because I have always been a seeker of truth! When I was getting baptized at age 11, I thought to myself- "I don't KNOW that this is the restored church of Jesus Christ for myself." I decided then that I would stay in the church until 'I KNEW' it was not true. Somewhere along the way, I gained a testimony through prayer, study, and fasting which has always kept me here. My life is better than I could have ever imagined as a child. I have been blessed with a joyful marriage, beautiful children, 16 jewels (grandchildren) and a life that gets me out of bed early because I just can't wait to start another day. I love that the Church is led by a living prophet that I have known and trusted since my teenage years. The gospel of Jesus Christ is inclusive...it teaches me to love and value people of all ages, races, cultures, and creeds. I do what I do because of love and wanting to further the teachings of Jesus Christ to everyone one who 'has ears to hear.' That scriptural verse has great significance because I have significant hearing loss and know that we have to listen to our hearts and minds and process information in both of those places.

How I live my faith

For the past year, I am currently serving as a nursery leader to children 18 months to 3 years old in church. In the nursery we have mini-gospel lessons with activities, play time, snacks, and music time. Teaching is my passion because academic learning was a great challenge to me as a child. I have had many callings teaching the children and youth within the church. I enjoy all teaching opportunities because it is a way to learn and help others at the same time. I also serve as a visiting teacher to other ladies in my church. Visiting teaching is a way to give support and assistance to those assigned families whom you reach to in their time of need. Visit teaching is a precious opportunity to strengthen other families with loving support. My faith is the core of who I am and the decisions that I make. The Spirit of the Lord is a guide and a protection to me. I recently turned 60 years old and am off for a new adventure. My husband and I have been called to serve a 23 month service mission in Richmond, Virginia now that he has retired. We live in exciting days. The key is to be deeply rooted in the teachings and example of Jesus Christ. He is the solution to all of life's questions.
