Hi I'm Ben Balmforth

I'm 18 years old and I have 2 little brothers. I really like to snowboard and go to the beach. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I just recently graduated high school. During high school I studied Mandarin Chinese and I had the opportunity to travel to Beijing. The culture and architecture there was amazing. I really like being outside and trying new things. Something that I have learned about myself in the past year or so is that I find art very interesting. Visiting the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston is a lot of fun. I will be going on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in August to Taiwan. Afterwards I will be attending Brigham Young University.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of the peace and comfort that it brings to me. I know that whenever I do something wrong, I can turn to my Savior and he will always forgive me. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is very simple but it can touch every area of your life and turn you into a much better person than you ever thought you could be. I know that my life would be very different. The Savior does not take away all of our trials or make everything easy for us but I know that He has a plan for us and that He knows whats best for us. The experiences that we have shape who we are. I know that as we really on the Lord through each of our own trials, He can use those trials to shape us into the best kind of person that we can be. I want to be able to show that to other people and be able to help and serve those around me so that they can feel some of the love that our Heavenly Father has for us.

How I live my faith

I try to be an example to those around me at school. In many cases, I am the only Mormon they know and so it us up to me to give them a good impression and understanding of my church. Since I have turned 18, I meet with the adults now but up until then I was the leader of the boys 16-18. We would plan service projects and go on camp outs typically once a month. We would also meet together on Sundays and have a lesson about our beliefs from one of our leaders. There is a great feeling of friendship and happiness among the boys and it can really help to boost you up.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Ben Balmforth
Missions are not required to be served by the young men and women of the Church. However, it is a wonderful opportunity to learn and to grow as well as teach others and serve them. I personally do not know anyone who regrets going on their mission. Show more Show less
