Hi I'm Chase Owens

I live in Las Vegas. I like to write my own music. I'm on a mission to Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I absolutely love music! I play piano, guitar, and I sing. Above all I like to write my own music, and I have a few songs of my own. I'm interested in a career in architecture or civil engineering, and will pursue that in college at BYU Provo after my 2 year mission to Guatemala. I'm very excited for that as well! I'm currently a lifeguard/swim teacher, though I enjoy teaching much more than guarding. I love camping, hiking, backpacking, basically anything in the outdoors, and I like to get out of the heat as much as I can.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I want to be better. There have been a lot of times in my life where I've felt inadequate, either from pressure from my sometimes too prestigious family or from my own perceptions of what I should be like, and I hated feeling that way. My friends helped push me in the right direction and showed me that it's okay to be inadequate, and that no one is perfect, because through my Savior, Jesus Christ, I can become better everyday, and grow closer to my Heavenly Father, and to feel his love, and I know that is what he wants for me. I know our Father intentionally made us imperfect, and I believe it is so we have the desire to become better and improve, and frankly, I'm thankful that I'm not perfect. I know our Heavenly Father loves us no matter what we do, or how imperfect we are, and that will never change.

How I live my faith

I have had several leadership opportunities in my church. I served as a counselor and eventually a president over a group of young men in my ward, as well as the President for the early morning gospel study classes we go to before school. I love to help other people, and volunteer to go out with my ward missionaries weekly. I'm trying to give better service, not only to people I know, but to strangers and to love them the way our Heavenly Father does.

What is being a Mormon like?

Chase Owens
Being a Mormon, in my opinion, isn't all that different from just trying to be a good person. Our goal is to keep the commandments, and do all we can to live happily with our Heavenly Father. That being said, I'm not going to sugar-coat it. Being a Mormon can be a lot of work and effort. Sometimes people ask a lot of you. With church callings and meetings, your schedule can get pretty packed. You're expected to be an example for others. At times, the high standards people set for you can be overwhelming, but it is all worth it. Having the knowledge that there is a plan for us, and that we have a Father who loves us very much gives you just enough comfort and reassurance to make all those overwhelming feelings seem insignificant. Being a Mormon is one of the greatest blessings I've been given, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. Show more Show less
