Hi I'm Dominick Castorena

Native idahoan, currently serving in the Texas San Antonio mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy pondering and sometimes letting my mind wander in enjoying the beautiful creations of God that surround us. I love animals and nature and seek the finer things in life, to labor for that meat which doesn't perish. I enjoy basketball and other physical activites such as soccer, working out, and an occasional wrestle. I'm a son to a faithful mother and a non member father, my parents are both divorced and remarried. I like to listen to others and strive to understand the feelings of ones soul that words cannot describe. I like connecting with and relating to others and look for the little ways that I can serve everyday. I strive to be like Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon not because I was raised in this church, but because of my yearning for a place beyond that in which I was found. I consider myself as Paul being "one born out of due time" for at one point in my life I was living a lifestyle congratulatory to that of a true Mormon. I was lost, alone, and without an idea in a world that I thought I could never get out of. It was one night that I was thinking about my life and where I was at when the weight of my sins over came me. I felt an extreme sorrow and a hopelessness for I thought there were no purpose for my life and it would be better that I might die. It was then that I received a message from my angel mother, I cannot recall in detail the full extent of that message but 4 words that brought an overwhelming power and life into my soul. "I love you son." 4 words; inspired by God, written by (wo)man, testified of by the Holy Ghost gave me a hope. I felt encircled about in the arms of God and I knew that I was truly his, and I knew that I needed to do whatever I could to always have this peace and companionship with me. The Book of Mormon sealed everything that I knew to be true in a single verse in the book of mosiah, 2nd chapter 41'st verse. as i continue to read and study the book of mormon my testimony only continues to grow such as "a well of water springing up into everlasting life". i know the book of mormon and the church that espouses it to be true. joseph smith was and is a prophet of god, and this is God's church and kingdom on earth. don't believe me? read the book of mormon, i dare ya.

How I live my faith

Not only do I live my faith, but I am blessed with the opportunity to teach others about it all day every day. I strive to understand and uplift others as the savior would and do my best to repent quickly and draw closer to God by doing so. I actively study the scriptures and teaching of the prophets to have the knowledge and wisdom I need in my service and in my personal life. I'm a leader of a small group of missionaries and pray fervently for them, their families, and those they teach. I simply strive to live my life in a way that when others see me, they may catch a glimpse of the Jesus who redeemed me.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Dominick Castorena
one of my favorite counsels given in that famous sermon on the mount by the savior is " be ye therefor perfect, even as your father which is in heaven is perfect." (mat. 5:48). Jesus is the way. his atonement was more than just a price being paid for our sins, but also Him standing in our shoes, facing our trials and temptations so that He as the scripture says "may know according to the flesh how to succor His people." (alm. 7:12) the purpose of life is to prepare to meet God, so that when the time comes we may be pure even as He is. (alm. 34:32, moro. 7:48) we face many trials and temptations in this life that could easily distance us from our Father in Heaven were it not for the Savior and the succoring He provides us. He knows how we feel, He understands us and more importantly because He knows all He can show us what we need to overcome these things. a simple knowledge of the atonement isn't enough to get us through life, but what does is the witness of the Spirit that urges us to move forward, saying "it's real, the Savior knows you and loves you. you can do this, I am with you." no finite mind can describe or comprehend the power of the atonement that comes through the Holy Ghost, to our hearts. it's my testimony that the Savior did suffer all, so He can know how to help each of us in our lives. "these things I've spoken unto you that in Me ye might have peace. in the world ye shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." Show more Show less
