Hi I'm Marissa

I'm a student, I live in shorts and sandals, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in hot and humid Texas, which means spending lots of time on the water. Lakes, rivers, etc. are my thing. I love the sun! I have a loud and loving family, who are some of my very best friends. Any time I get to spend with them is rewarding. I also love spending time with friends playing games, enjoying the outdoors, and laughing until my stomach hurts. I'm a college student with hopes of getting a Master's degree in Occupational Therapy, a field in which I can help children, the elderly, and those with brain trauma live more comfortable lives. I am passionate about sunny afternoons and serving people!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because as I exercise my faith, I can feel God's love for me. I know that we have a Heavenly Father whose goal is to help us to be happy. He blesses us in this life when we are living righteously, and He strengthens us when we fall short and ask for help. I have seen miracle after miracle take place when faith is exercised. When we show God that we love Him, and even when we don't, He manifests His hand in our lives. But when I follow God's plan for me and do my best to live faithfully, I can feel His love for me almost constantly. Being a member of this church helps me to more clearly understand what God's plan for me is. I also know that Jesus Christ is the Savior of this world. His atonement that started in the garden and ended on the cross ensured that we can be forgiven of our sins and comforted in times of pain or heartache. I have felt time and time again forgiveness for my mistakes and comfort when I am troubled. His resurrection is beautiful because it means that He lives! And that we, too, can live again.

How I live my faith

There are two ways I find most effective for me personally to live my faith: The first is to keep God's commandments. Commandments are set in place not as restrictions, but as aids in helping us stay happy here on earth. A kite without a string cannot fly, but a kite that is grounded with a string can soar high and long. When we keep the commandments, we are showing God that we love Him. The second is to love others. Jesus Christ teaches us that we should love others just as He loves us. When I reach out to people, whether it be to physically serve them, or to just be an understanding ear, I feel love for them. When I feel love for others, it gives me a stronger desire to become like Jesus Christ. It's a beautiful cycle.
