Hi I'm Ara

I am from Los Angeles. I am studying Applied Mathematics at BYU and am preparing to serve a mission in Russia...and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I grew up in Los Angeles and am currently serving a mission in Russia Vladivostok. I am a student at BYU studying Applied Mathematics and will finish my studies after my mission. I have had so much fun at BYU and love the people and the environment so much! I love to study and learn, but also really enjoy being outside and active! I love to play volleyball and soccer and really enjoy running and hiking. I'd also have to say one of my favorite things to do is go to the beach.

Why I am a Mormon

I love being a Mormon because I know that the gospel has brought me so many blessings and so much happiness that I wouldn't have had otherwise. I have grown up as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) so I've always gone to church with my family and been taught about Jesus Christ. I always believed that what I was learning was true, but there came a time in my life when I really wanted to know for myself, instead of just believing, if all that I was learning was true. I decided that I would study the scriptures and try out all of the things that we are asked to do as Mormons. I prayed to my Heavenly Father each night and asked Him if what I was learning was true. I felt so much peace and happiness. Heavenly Father answered my prayers, and I came to know of myself that the Book of Mormon is a true book of scripture and that the Mormon church is the true church. I am so grateful for all that I know because I am able to see what a difference it makes in my life. I am so happy and so confident and know that I have direction in my life. I love being a Mormon!

How I live my faith

I love being a Mormon because of the incredible number of opportunities that we have to serve and teach those around us. I haven't had a huge number of different callings in my life, but there are a couple that have really stuck out to me. For a couple years, I served as the ward chorister for my local congregation. That meant that during our sacrament meeting held in the chapel, I was in charge of leading the music! I absolutely loved it because I love music and it was so fun to be able to look out and see everyone each Sunday morning. I have also been able to serve as a Primary teacher. This means that I was in charge of teaching a Sunday School class each Sunday. I taught the 11-12 year olds and loved every minute of it. It was sometimes hard to prepare a lesson, but I feel like I learned so much from it and was really able to help the children I taught learn more about Jesus Christ and the gospel. They were also so fun to be around! I am so thankful for all of the opportunities I have had to serve in the church. I am currently serving a mission in Russia and love this opportunity to help so many people feel God's love!
