Hi I'm Suzanna

I'm from Kansas City. I love making music and helping people understand math. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the suburbs of Kansas City with some great parents who taught me to work hard, be humble, and find ways to serve others. I have since left home to attend Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Now, I'm getting ready to be a full-time missionary to help the people of Ecuador develop faith in and follow Jesus Christ. Music is very important to my family; all of my siblings play instruments. I've played the violin since I was a kid and took up singing in high school. At BYU, I've been in Women's Chorus (a women's choir) and the Symphony Orchestra. In high school, I began volunteering as a tutor in the school's math help lab and found that I loved seeing ideas "click." Now, I'm working towards a degree in mathematics, possibly with an emphasis in applied math or math education. I also love the gospel of Jesus Christ. It has been so important in shaping who I am and who I want to become. That's why I'm putting my life on pause to help the ideas of God's truth "click" with the people of Ecuador.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer, and I gained that knowledge as I read the Book of Mormon. Reading the Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John in the Bible taught me about His incredible example and what He did for others. The Book of Mormon taught me what He did for me. The Book of Mormon is full of the experiences of individuals and and groups of people who chose to follow Jesus Christ. Reading about how He changed these people's lives me want to experience the same kind of change. As I continued to read and pray, I felt this change. For me, the Book of Mormon is how I know Christ, and not just know of Him. This is the biggest reason why I am a Mormon. I also am a Mormon because I have had experiences that confirm to me that the authority that Jesus Christ gave to His apostle Peter (called the Priesthood) was brought back to the earth through Joseph Smith. These experiences are special and I don't share them often, but they mostly involve times when I needed answers or comfort and got them by the power of the Priesthood. For example, through the Priesthood, my dad can give me blessings of comfort, and these have been very meaningful and important to me at various times in my life. Because of my experiences with Jesus Christ, the Book of Mormon, and the restored Priesthood, I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying find ways to do what God asks of me and help others. One thing I've done in this past year is organize music for my congregation at college. I found people to play and sing hymns and other uplifting songs during our main Sunday meeting and helped the coordinate between the choir director, pianist, and chorister. This was especially fun during Christmas time! More recently, I've been working in the Kansas City LDS Temple, which is a place where members of our faith go to worship God, in addition to church meetings on Sunday. What I do there varies from day to day, but so far I've gotten to greet people as they first enter, help people throughout the sacred building, and even clean the bathroom! Haha. I've really enjoyed my time there, and while I'm excited to serve my mission, I'll be sad to leave the nice people I've met there.
