Hi I'm Matty

I love trying new things, learning new things, but most of all being with family. I am a mormon

About Me

I just finished my Freshmen year of college. I spend most of my time working at an internship so that I can one day get into grad school and eventually become a counsellor. I get to sit in on sessions and see the way that counsellors change peoples lives. It is really awesome. In my free time I like to pretend I can play the ukulele. I have the lava song down..mostly. Something cool that I have done is gone skydiving. Heights terrify me but I had the opportunity and my fear of missing out on an amazing experience over shadowed my fear of heights. I love life.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church but my parents stopped going consistently by the time I turned eight years old. I followed their footsteps when I turned 13. My younger sister (on my mom's side) was diagnosed with cancer my freshmen year of high school. That was really hard. I think it forced me to really think about what I believed in. I tried going to different churches for three years but they didn't have that peace that I really was looking for. I read a book about Christ in a different church and I remember it making me question my own relationship with him. I began to realize that the Mormon Church brought me closer to Christ than anything. They valued family and I want that for myself and for my future generations. I drove myself to the nearest mormon church one week in July and I never looked back. I love the peace this church brings to me. It grounds me in a way that nothing else does.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by attending all the available meetings. Right now I am in this thing called "young single adults". It is for people age 18-30. We all get together and meet several times a week. Monday we have family home evening. There is a spiritual thought and we have an activity that is usually uplifting or fun. Last week we played bubble soccer. Tuesdays we have volleyball. Thursdays we have a class that teaches us about the scriptures and Christ. Sundays we have church. I love going to church and learning more about why I am here. I live also my faith my reading my scriptures daily and continually seeking out ways to uplift my fellow man. Last week that meant I stayed a little longer at my internship to help someone put their office furniture together. Faith without works is nothing.
