Hi I'm Deshka Olson

Division1 basketball player. Temporarily hanging up the sneakers for a mission tag. Serving in the Washington Seattle mission.

About Me

I was born and raised in Salmon Idaho. Sports were everything I did growing up. I knew that one day I would play a college sport, I just didn't know what one yet. In total I played 9 different sports plus dance class and the occasional music lesson. I loved each sport i played but found a love for basketball, which I pursued the most. I ended up getting a full ride scholarship to play Division 1 basketball at LMU, in the WCC conference, the same as BYU. I ended up leaving LMU after a year and a half to Serve a mission, I will be leaving to start my mission in Seattle, Washington on July 13, 2016. I love to know that I have the opportunity to connect with so many different people with a lot of different backgrounds. Im interested in learning more about myself through other peoples knowledge. I get to test my faith and beliefs to see where they fall in line with their faith, beliefs, standards, and expectations for life. I love the similarities that come about when conversation is happening. Along with sports I love the outdoors. Nothing is better than experiencing all the joys this earth has to offer.

Why I am a Mormon

My Mom and Dad we actually converts to the church before they got married. So for my own story, I was actually born into the Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints (LDS) I made the decision myself to be baptized at the age of 8yrs. I can more than likely say though that I am a recent convert. I also believe my conversation story is still in process. I know for a fact that I don't hold the knowledge of everything this church has to offer. I have always undeniably know how much our Heavenly Father and his son Jesus Christ loves me and us. But I can also say I am a recent convert for me having the knowledge of the book of mormon and how it connects to the bible. They are for sure meant to support one another. I am still in the process of my conversion story because I am not perfect and I don't have everything figured out. I have a lifetime of study to try and figure out who exactly I am and what everything means. But being LDS I have become closer to understanding my divine potential. Through the teachings and council of this church I continually inch my way towards who it is I want to be and who it is my Father in Heaven wants me to be.

How I live my faith

I am striving to be the best I can each day by following Christ example for us. Through Christ, we are given guidelines to live a happier more peaceful life. By trying my best to follow these guidelines I can feel and see God's tender mercies that are provided for us every single day. I like to accept the callings and opportunities to speak or teach for church settings. These things help me stay in line with the doctrine of Christ. They also help me to remember why I am here, where I came from, and where I am going. It gives me purpose and lets me know that I have purpose and I have one right now. I enjoy participating in all church activities, not only to support those who put it on, but to enjoy my surroundings and network with the people around me to create lasting friends. Its nice to know at these activities that I will always be standing in a good environment at all times. These type of activities that the church provides for all ages helps me to remember to stand as a witness of God at all times, in all things, and in all places. those are the type of places i want to be.
