Hi I'm Jonathan

I'm a film nerd from the Pacific Northwest, and a full-time missionary. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm currently a full-time missionary for the Church serving in Tacoma, Washington. I've been going to college for a year and a half, and will continue my education there after my mission. I'm very interested in film. I love all kinds of movies, as long as they meet my standards and are of high quality. Some directors I love include Alfred Hitchcock (Favorite: North by Northwest), Isao Takahata (Favorite: The Tale of the Princess Kaguya), Stanley Donen (Favorite: Charade), Billy Wilder (Favorite: Sunset Boulevard), Michael Curtiz (Favorite: Casablanca), Hayao Miyazaki (Favorite: Castle in the Sky), and Stephen Spielberg (Favorite: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade). I'm also a lover of music of all kinds - as long as it's good, I'll listen to it!

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but that doesn't mean I automatically knew it was true. I had to find out for myself whether or not it was. I still don't know the answers to all the questions I have, but I know enough that I can say with confidence that this is the gospel of Christ. I know that God exists, and that He loves every single member of humanity. I know that suffering is temporary, and that the Atonement of Jesus Christ has the ability to help us through our times of suffering. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet, and that the Book of Mormon, along with the Holy Bible, is a divine document brought forth by the power of God.

How I live my faith

Right now, the biggest way I'm living my faith is by serving a mission! Being a full-time missionary means I basically put my life on hold for a period of time in order to teach the gospel to people. It's a big sacrifice, but I wouldn't have chosen to do it if I didn't know how important it is.The gospel of Jesus Christ has helped me so much in my life, and it has the potential to help everyone. So, give the missionaries a chance! We're here to help you.

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

Jonathan
We definitely believe in being "saved by grace," but we believe that God also wants us to do good deeds and keep the commandments. As it says in James 2:18, "Faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone." Faith without action is empty, as is action without faith. Heavenly Father intended us to use both together. However, without the Atonement of Christ enabling us to repent of our sins, we would not be able to find salvation no matter how many good works we do. And, in fact, the Savior's grace is one of the things that enables us to continue acting on our faith. By obeying God's will, we show Him that we are appreciative of His Son's sacrifice by emulating Christ in our actions. Show more Show less
