Hi I'm Jackson Newman

I hail from Pleasant Grove, Utah, and am a graduating senior at PG High. Called to serve in Uruguay, Montevideo, August 2nd.

About Me

I am 18 years old, and have played football, wrestled, ran track and sang in choir at Pleasant Grove High School. I have a 3.99 GPA and 30 ACT score. I also love to do water sports, shoot guns, and make videos; I love anything to do with computers. I used to play Bantam basketball when I was younger and have enjoyed church ball.

Why I am a Mormon

Truthfully, I was born into the church and have known nothing else my whole life (goodly parents), but I have chosen to stick with the Church for a few reasons. 1) The Lord, in hand with my parents and leaders, has guided me to become a better person than I ever dreamed I could become. He and they have taught me lasting lessons on kindness, patience, service, forgiveness and repentance that have affected my life positively in immeasurable ways. I owe who I am to this church. 2) The people in this church are truly incredible examples to me. They are so kind, caring, intuitive, and great to talk to. They have helped me in times of need, and always know how to make me feel wanted. I am truly happy when I am with them. 3) I love my family and cherish the opportunity I may have to live with them in glory forever, immediate, extended, and future families alike.

How I live my faith

I am on Seminary Council at my school, which means I work with other Council members to try to help our seminary students remember to read and have a positive, fun, and spiritual experience at seminary. It's been amazing getting to touch the lives of the students. I personally get to make the videos for seminary which is the funnest gig ever. Something that I started doing in my sophomore year of high school was "Scripture Sunday." I would pick a scripture each week that I liked or thought was relevant, and I would include my thoughts and testimony with that scripture. It started out as a group chat of about 50 people, and then 100, until it blossomed to almost 300 people. Now Scripture Sunday is so large that I no longer send out texts but post them to Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, and I have received countless comments on how the scripture I post was just what they needed that week. You don't need to wear a name tag to be a missionary.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Jackson Newman
The Atonement is the greatest and most encompassing gift Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ have ever given us. Jesus took upon Himself every sin, sadness, sickness, anguish, etc., that we will ever experience while on this Earth. This makes Him the only person who can say, "I know exactly how you feel," when we are going through something that troubles us or is devastating. What an immense comfort this is. We know that we aren't perfect; we make mistakes, and "no unclean thing can enter into the Kingdom of God." Thanks to His Atonement, He has paid the price for our sins and taken them upon Him, and through sincere repentance, we can be made clean again. In addition, as we may be suffering from depression, stress, anxiety, or any trial, for that matter, the Atonement of Jesus Christ allows Him to know our struggles perfectly and walk with us through our trials. As Moses 6:34 says, "thou shalt abide in me, and I in you; therefore walk with me." He will walk with us through our trials and we will become happier and more like Him as a result.
