Hi I'm Nate Carlson

I grew up in Bountiful, Utah. I will graduate High School in June 2016 and then serve a mission in Taipei, Taiwan.

About Me

I am 18 years old and a senior at Bountiful High School. I received my mission call to Taipei Taiwan speaking Mandarin Chinese and will be leaving on June 22nd for a period of about two years. I love to play and watch sports especially golf and basketball. I have really enjoyed my High School experience. I have made so many great friends who are great examples to me. I have also learned so much. Learning is one of the things that I really love to do. After I return from my mission I plan to attend college at BYU or the University of Utah. I do not know what I want to do yet but, I do hope that I can continue to use my Mandarin skills to help others in my career. I love my family and they are very important to me. I have one little brother along with my mom and dad. Family is important because they will always be there for you even when others are not.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon for many different reasons, but when it comes down to it the main reason that I am a Mormon is because I have a testimony that this church is true. I was born into this church so I have known it my whole life, but I have not always had a testimony. There was a time where I had to ask myself what I really believed and pray to know if what I have been taught is true. My testimony will still continue to grow through out my life and on my mission, but right now I have the basic foundation to build off of. I have a testimony of Jesus Christ and his atonement. It is amazing to think that there is someone who understands your hardships and your happiness's perfectly. I have found comfort in this fact when I have been going through hard times. I love having this knowledge that Jesus died for me so that I can be saved and I am excited to share it with the people of Taiwan. I know that this gospel can change lifes.

How I live my faith

Looking back on my life so far I have found that the times when I have been the most happy are when I have been striving to live in harmony with church standards and teachings. Because of the happiness that I have felt at these points in my life I am motivated to do my best to live my faith. I have great friends who support me in my efforts to become stronger in the church. Many of my friends have also received mission calls just like me. It has been really cool to see them change along with me as we try to prepare to share the gospel with others. I try to read and study my scriptures everyday. It is so important to take advantage of the things that can be learned from the scriptures. You can always learn something new from the scriptures. I have felt that as I read my scriptures I get a power with me that helps me throughout my day. I also try to go home teaching every month. Home teaching is something that all members of our church are encouraged to do. I am assigned a companion from the ward and as a companionship we are assigned two to three families in the ward to visit every month. Our job is to make sure that they are doing alright and offer any help to them if they are struggling with any issue. I love doing this because it helps me worry about other people other than my self. I think as humans, especially me, we have a tendency to be selfish sometimes. I love all of the programs that the church offers to its members that gives them opportunities to serve. These programs have helped me gain a greater perspective on life and a greater understanding of Jesus Christ's mortal ministry. It is awe inspiring to think that Christ sacrificed his whole life to care for others. This is a good lesson for me to try to be more selfless.
