Hi I'm Derek Johnson

I'm an athlete, musician, lifeguard, student, photographer, Calgarian, nature lover, and full time missionary. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I've lived in the same home my whole life, with a view of the vast Rocky Mountains outside my window every morning. I love to spend time in the mountains hiking and backpacking, fishing and swimming, taking pictures and taking in views. If I'm not on the basketball court, lifeguarding at the pool, or sitting at a piano, chances are that I'm doing something crazy with one of my three brothers. I was raised in the church, and I'm so grateful for the wonderful parents that I have who have taught me to live the gospel. I am currently in the Provo MTC, doing my best to learn Czech prior to my service in the Czech/Slovak mission. I feel very blessed and humbled to have this opportunity to serve our Heavenly Father's children and to share the gospel that has done so much to bless my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe that this religion has the fullness of the gospel of Christ. Its the only thing on this earth that seems to last and be a constant truth. Because I am a Mormon, I know that I can be with my family and my future family forever. And that's all you could ever ask for.

How I live my faith

I get to live my faith in every choice I make. I do my best to follow the example of our savior Jesus Christ in everything I do, because that's what He would do. As I am out serving a mission, everyone who reads my name tag can see that I have faith in Christ. I hope to live in a way that I won't even need to have His name on my chest for others to know that I love and follow Him.
