Hi I'm David

I was born in Los Angeles, California. I served a mission in north Germany. I was a professor at BYU Law School. I am LDS.

About Me

I am the oldest of four brothers. My mother passed away at age 90, and my dad at age 96. I am a retired attorney and law professor. My wife and I have eight children and currently 20 grandchildren. The relationships in our family are close and loving. In my academic career I wrote several dozen books and articles for professional journals, mostly about real estate, property rights and legal history. In addition to family activities, I enjoy photography and family history. I have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS or Mormon) since I was nine years old. My father joined the church when I was 17. For 2 and 1/2 years I was a full-time volunteer missionary for the church in northern Germany from 1963 to 1965. I am still an active, committed member of the church, and believe this has been the source of much happiness and many blessings for me and my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I believe that the doctrines of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints represent the fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. These doctrines are found in the Bible, the Book of Mormon and other books of scripture, and in the teachings of ancient and modern prophets. Together they teach us of the plan of salvation and happiness that God makes available to us, if we will acknowledge Jesus Christ, his literal son, as our Savior and Redeemer, and do our best to follow His teachings. Our time on earth is an opportunity to learn how to follow His teachings, and for those who passed through this mortality without that opportunity, our loving Heavenly Father has provided a means for their salvation as well. All of these teachings are found in the doctrines of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In addition, this Church provides us with the information and means to bind our families together for not only this life, but for eternity. The gifts of the spirit are to be found fully in this Church, including the gift of the Holy Ghost, healings, tongues and many others. If we seek by prayer to know the truth of these things, including the Book of Mormon, the Holy Ghost will make them known to us.

How I live my faith

In my LDS church activities I have been a teacher of numerous different classes, most recently on subjects relating to family history. I have taught youth and adults. I have been active as a Boy Scout leader in units sponsored by the LDS church. I have also been a leader of LDS congregations, both family congregations and single adult congregations. I make monthly visits to several families in my local congregation and provide assistance as needed. My local congregation also helps organize its members into activities and projects that provide service to our neighbors. Participation in all of these helps enrich my life.
