Hi I'm Elgin Arave

I grew up in the United States. I am a Missionary. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name Elgin, I grew up in the United States. Right now I am not attending college because I am about to leave for my mission to Liberia. Which is in west Africa. I am extremely excited and nervous but am so happy to be able to serve a mission. Growing up I was the second oldest of five children I did grow up in the church though. My family are sports nuts and although I played sports growing up it really wasn't for me. I did however, love to workout and weight lift. I am sort of a gym rat. But growing up I played in the band, acted in plays. I loved history and language arts. I loved writing poems, and plays and short stories. My hope coming back from my mission is to be able to direct and produce plays in Utah, California, or New York. That's the dream that is.

Why I am a Mormon

In all honesty I am a Mormon because well I was born into a LDS family. Which is why I deeply admire the many converts of the church and having to build faith in Christ and making the choice for themselves whether or not to be baptized. I didn't really have a choice or I didn't really care all that much when I was baptized. Looking back now I wish I had developed a stronger testimony when I was younger. But after I graduated is when I truly thought I had a choice in the matter. I made the choice to become a missionary and to be a missionary you have to be worthy so I made the choice to be worthy to be a missionary. After finally reading the book of Mormon for my self and praying about it I can testify that it is true, and that this is Christ church. I am a Mormon because I believe the book of Mormon to be true and if it true that means this church is true.

How I live my faith

Growing up, I wasn't the strongest member of the church. Our family was never big on family home evening, or reading scriptures or pressuring each other to read and pray. Mostly because most of my family works or has to attend sports events or for me it was band or theater. We all were just so busy and we never did any of that kind of stuff. After I graduated and was leaning toward going on a mission I started to live more righteously and more Christ like. I love going to church now, I read my scriptures everyday I don't always pray but I will be better. Preparing to go on a mission, has taught me a lot about where I stand in the church, or how strong my faith. And I definitely have a lot of room to improve but I am doing much better than I was. And I am starting to have a stronger and stronger testimony each time I read or pray or do mission prep or attend church. Like I said there is room for improvement but I am definitely better than I was a few months ago.
