Hi I'm Alex

I am a college student. I love to write. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college student at Brigham Young University, studying English and pursing a minor in Editing. I love to read, especially fiction, and my dream is to be an author. I do a little bit of contemporary dance, which I also love. I play the flute, and music is another one of my passions. I love the BBC show Sherlock, and my favorite books include Harry Potter, Code Name Verity, and anything Cassandra Clare writes.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into this church, but I haven't always known it was the right place for me. When I was younger, I read the entire Book of Mormon, cover to cover, in an effort to know if what I was reading was the truth. I needed to know that my efforts, my church attendance, my prayers, etc. were worth it. Once I had studied it out and prayed sincerely to know whether what I was reading and doing was true and right, I received a feeling of peace incomparable to anything I have felt since. I came to recognize that it was the gospel and my faith in it that was allowing me to experience this peace, not just in that moment, but throughout my everyday life. I was given ample opportunity to learn from my peers throughout my school years about their faiths and share with them things about my own faith. This process strengthened my belief, as it brought more confirmation to me that what I was telling them was true. Later in life, I was faced with many difficult decisions. One of these was whether to take the easy way out and neglect my faith, or to take the more difficult path and choose to be obedient to the will of God. I chose the latter, and I have been blessed ever since with opportunities I never could have dreamed of. This church brings me more joy than I could ever have imagined. It gives me hope. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I make an effort to draw closer to God each day through simple things, such as prayer, studying my scriptures, and going to church. I am proud of my faith and make an effort to show that in my every day actions. I want to live in a way that speaks for my faith more than my words can. In the past, I have led youth groups and helped to organize Youth Conferences and other local activities. While I attended college, I helped organize and facilitate small groups, called "families," that held weekly activities together. I also occasionally write a blog explaining my beliefs and my faith through writing, combining my love of language with my love for my faith.
