Hi I'm Nancy

I'm a Mom and a Grandma.

About Me

I was born in Maryland. When twelve years old my family moved to Utah. I graduated from college in Child Development and Human Relations. I spent two years on a mission for my church in Japan. Upon return, I married and had nine children. Our family moved around a lot. We lived in California, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nevada, and now Utah. After volunteering in the school library, I was able to work in the public library as a children's reference librarian. Part of the job was doing story time for children 3-5 years old, and a book group for elementary age children. I was able to spend a lot of time helping my mother the last 3 1/2 years of her life. Now we are spending time with grandchildren, gardening, and doing some genealogy. In the community, I have tutored in an adult reading program and an ESL program. I love to read a lot, and like to sing.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents taught me the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout my life. I believed them. Still, there came a time in my life when I wanted to know for myself if it was true. As I prayed for confirmation, I went about my day as if it were true. A peace came into my heart. Since that time, as I’ve followed the principles of the gospel, I have experienced spiritual direction in many decisions. When my father died, I felt a great loss, knowing he was no longer there for his wisdom and support of my decisions. I did, however, realize at the time I could turn to my Heavenly Father. I can talk to Him in prayer and get His guidance. I know He loves me and knows what is best for me. The gospel teaches principles I know are good for my family and me. It teaches honesty, love for God, Jesus Christ, and our fellow man, chastity, thoughtfulness, service to others, and gives us a health code to live by, among other worthwhile things. We follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and believe the ten commandments should be lived in our day . I know I will be united again with loved ones who have passed away. Because of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ we can live again with Him, our Heavenly Father, and our family.

How I live my faith

I have had many opportunities to serve others in the church and community. I’ve been involved in teaching religious and homemaking skills to women, and have taught children lessons and music. The church teaches preparedness and I have been involved in teaching and encouraging others in church and community. Having taken the “Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)” training I am able to be a block captain in my neighborhood to help those around me during an emergency or natural disaster. I have been able to participate in “English as a Second Language (ESL)” teaching driving rules, and have tutored reading in area schools, as well as in a literacy program to teach adults.
