Hi I'm Jeffrey Clason

I was born and raised in California, am an attorney and have also practiced law there, in Utah and in Pohnpei, Micronesia.

About Me

I played basketball in high school and my first year of college, then served as a young missionary for two years in Guatemala and El Salvador. My wife and I started law school with two children, had a third during law school, and have had two more since, three girls and two boys. We also have nine grandchildren, all living withing fifteen minutes of us. We live on two and a half acres and have three horses in our pasture and a colt just born on April 29. We tend our garden and several fruit trees. I learned from my dad so enjoy doing most of my own repairs around home and at our small 4-plex apartments, for our cars, riding lawnmower and equipment, and such.

Why I am a Mormon

I have learned for myself that the promise made in the first chapter of James is, in fact, true. Our Heavenly Father loves us, His children, and wants us to be happy and have hope. He does not leave it to our own invention or understanding concerning what it takes to find that happiness and hope, but has provided apostles and prophets to clearly tell us His will. And, because He loves us today just like He did his children in past ages, He does not require that we only rely on the writings of apostles and prophets from those former times. There are current authorized apostles and prophets who speak for Him. And, we need not rely solely on the ideas, understanding, experiences, and teachings of others to learn His will and to find out and what He wants for us or from us. We can go to Him, as stated by James, for answers to our questions and needs which he provides through the Holy Ghost. I have tried it and know that it works just like that. Besides James, another prophet has recorded the same instruction and invitation, as found in the book of Moroni.

How I live my faith

My wife and I have enjoyed and our family has benefited from our involvement as group leaders and local church service missionaries of a spouse and family support group in the church addiction recovery program. We have worked with so many wonderful men and women who are sorely affected by the addictions of family members and are learning how to receive healing, peace and hope for themselves as they apply principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ in their own daily lives. And this regardless of the recovery status of their struggling loved ones. Ellen and I have also been blessed and have learned so much, both in a religious as well as a secular way, with more than ten years experience of teaching early morning religion classes to LDS (and some non-LDS) high school students while living in Clovis. Students with such varied personalities, desires and plans, abilities and interests, have provided us a most interesting and expansive view of the challenges and opportunities facing the youth in today's world. We are so appreciative.
