Hi I'm Emily Hoy

I grew up in Waynesboro, Virginia.I'm a missionary in Oakland California. I love sports and studied at BYU-Hawaii. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to playing soccer, volleyball, and running (and pretty much any sport). My family and I (which consist of my two sisters, my mom, and my dad) are very close to each other and is something that I consider extremely special and dear to me. I studied at BYU-Hawaii for 2 semesters and absolutely loved it! My plan is to study Spanish Translation and Interpretation and hopefully apply and use that as a Lawyer after Law School. I'm currently serving a mission in the Oakland/ San Francisco California mission at the Visitors' Center and have so much excitement and love to be able to share with everyone this glad message that The Gospel has to offer. I love every aspect of The Gospel and the feelings of love, happiness, and peace that it brings into my life. I know that this Gospel of Jesus Christ applies to everyone and can be a source of change, hope, and strength.

Why I am a Mormon

I've been a member my whole life and pretty much all of my surrounding/ immediate family are members of the church. I always went to church and participated like I was supposed to, I did have a testimony, but it was more of an adopted and shared one with my parents. They were such great examples to me of what a member of the church should be like and I want to be like them. At around age 14 is when my testimony started becoming my own. I started praying with more questions for Heavenly Father to answer. The Spirit was something that I started recognizing more and realized how I felt when the Spirit was with me. The desire to serve a mission also started to become a reality to me. Years later, my boyfriend started converting to the church. His faith and diligence really strengthened me and made me reflect on the role that the gospel plays in my life everyday and how it's changed my life and perspective in the best way possible. Since he was investigating the church and learning, we were both being edified together and building/ strengthening our testimonies together. What really created that desire to serve a mission was feeling and seeing how happy this Gospel made us. I saw how this Gospel does apply to everyone and promotes a change of heart. He is now baptized and preparing to serve a mission. I am a Mormon because of the love, peace, and happiness it brings into my life, because of the second chances it gives to everyone, and because of the opportunity to be with my family forever.

How I live my faith

Currently, Im living my faith by serving a mission in California. I've been involved in my church and show how I live my faith by having been an instructor (teaching lessons) to women my age and also by having some leadership roles in the church. Growing up, I kept myself pretty busy by being involved with sports (mainly soccer) and pretty much always having some sort of sports practice during the week along with games on the weekend. I lived my faith by not participating in sports games that were scheduled for Sunday's. I also showed my faith by having friends that had similar standards that I had by not participating in things that went against what I believed in. During school, the only members in my school were my sisters. Living my faith was very hard at times, especially when the championship games for soccer tournaments were all on Sunday´s. But, I have been able to see how the Lord has blessed me through keeping the Sabbath Day holy and I know that I was strengthened through my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
