Hi I'm Rachel

I'm preparing to serve an LDS mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy playing volleyball, and used to play on my high school team; however, I haven't played in a few years. I mainly enjoy reading and writing now, and if money wasn't an option I would love being a professional writer. I am preparing to serve a mission so other things have been put on hold.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church, but ended up leaving because I didn't try to gain a testimony. During this time I was diagnosed with depression, and sin dragged me down even more. After a few years, and finally being able to look past self-pity, I was determined to learn about every religion on earth to find the answer to the meaning of life. My brother pointed me to LDS.org to learn about the church. This time I was going to learn with an open heart, not seeking to deny it or prove it wrong. I just wanted to know what members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints believe. The first talk I read was called Returning to Faith and it talked about a woman who lost her testimony; however, she realized she still believed in Jesus Christ. I realized that I did too. At some time through my study, the Holy Ghost entered into my heart. As I listened, I came to realize that what I had been doing with my life was wrong. I was denying God even though I knew He was real because I loved sin too much to give it up. Yet, with the realization that He was real and so was all I had been taught when I was young, I decided to give up sin. It was not an easy task, but God was there every step of the way guiding me and forgiving me when I messed up. It was through Christ and His infinite Atonement that I was able to overcome my sins. Repentance is not an easy path, but it is not a path that you must walk alone. Bishops, friends, family, and most importantly God are there to help you. Only through prayer and turning to Christ can you be forgiven and overcome sins. Satan will try to convince you that you aren't worthy of prayer, that you can't repent, and that God will never forgive you. This is a lie, because God loves you and He wants you to return to live with him someday. I know that God loves us all, and that if we turn to Him and follow His commandments, He will forgive us and help us to overcome our sins. God loves me, and this is His church, and that is why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I am preparing to serve a mission. I've been called to the California, San Diego mission, English speaking. I leave for the Missionary Training Center(MTC) on May 25th. I'll be leaving for 18 months and spreading the good word of the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ on the earth. As I was waiting for my calling, I was a Sunday School teacher for the 14-15 year olds, which was no small task. Now though, I am attending temple preparation class. This class will help me in preparing to enter the temple and receive my endowments, which are sacred covenants or promises we make with God.
