Hi I'm Clarissa

I am a college student studying Chemical Engineering. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a girl studying engineering. It is a hard major, but it is really interesting. I have a great love of mathematics and a deep interest in chemistry. For two semesters, I have been a teacher's assistant for mathematics classes. I have really loved helping people understand the things that come to me naturally. I spend most of my time studying or doing homework; however, when I am not studying, I love to read books. They are so amazing at bridging the gaps between time and space. I also love watching films, especially foreign language films. They have a different way of telling stories. Although both school and various forms of entertainment are important to me, my religion comes first. My membership in the LDS church helps define who I am and the decision I make every day. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into an LDS family. However, even if I was not born into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I would still have joined this church. This gospel has brought me great peace, happiness, and strength in my life. Life is still not easy, but I can get through every day with the help of my Savior Jesus Christ. Through the doctrines I've learned in the church, I know that Jesus Christ suffered for my sins so that I can be clean. I know that I have a Heavenly Father who loves me and knows me as an individual. I lived before I came to this Earth and I will live after I leave it. I am so grateful for the knowledge I have of my Savior, because I know how to follow Him. I am trying my hardest to follow the example of Jesus Christ. I want to do His will and become more like Him. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints helps its members follow Christ and become more like Him. That is why I am a Mormon, because I love Him and am following Him.

How I live my faith

I have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints my entire life. Therefore, I have had many opportunities to serve within my church. I have been able to be both a teacher and a leader of my peers. Once, for a few months, I was able to help teach three year olds about the gospel of Jesus Christ. It was a very humbling experience. Aside from service within the church organization, I try to live the gospel every day. I try to pray and read my scriptures daily. In college, I have taken five religion courses so far, and I have loved deeply studying both the Book of Mormon and the New Testament. The scriptures are very important to me, and I love them deeply. I am currently serving a mission in the Utah Salt Lake City East Mission.

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

Clarissa
We pay tithing because it is a commandment of God. The money donated as tithing goes toward building His kingdom. Every single thing we have is thanks to God. All of our possessions, including our very lives, are gifts from Him. The chance to give back some of our God-given blessings is a blessing in itself. In the book of Malachi, God promises to "open the windows of heaven and pour down blessings that there will not be room enough to receive them." (Malachi 3: 10) Tithing is not a burden, but a blessing. There are countless stories among members of the joys of paying tithing. Show more Show less
