Hi I'm Reese

I grew up in California. I play water polo and golf and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Reese. I am 19 years old and have completed one year of college on the beautiful island of Oahu. I have 3 siblings who I love very much. During high school, I was a 4 year varsity athlete in water polo and golf. Before high school, I played these sports my entire life, starting golf when I was 3 years old and water polo when I was 10. I love being active. Some of my favorite memories include going skiing/snowboarding with my family, backpacking in the Sierra Nevada, and going to the beach in Southern California. More recently I have been going to college on Oahu. It has been an amazing experience to be able to live in Hawaii for 9 months of my life and after my mission I plan on returning there to complete schooling.

Why I am a Mormon

Since I was born into the Church, I have been Mormon my whole life. It had never been too much of a choice for me. Living the standards of the Gospel was something that, as a family, we just did. As I grew older, I learned that it was actually a choice that I needed to make for me to do what is right. I learned this while I was away at school. I had the choice to go to school, church, and obey the rules of the school and the laws of state. While making mistakes, falling and getting back up again, I learned that doing what is right, what my parents and the church had taught me was/is what will make me the most happy in life. I know that this gospel is true. It may be hard to live at times but just because something is hard or difficult, does not mean that it is not possible.

How I live my faith

The way I live my faith is by me trying to be the best person that I can be. I try my best to help those in need. In church, i have had several leadership responsibilities where I was able to help those around me in ways I never thought I would be able to. One thing that I was able to do was complete my Eagle Scout award. In order to do this, I needed to do a project. for my project, I decided to go to a specific area, cut, split and move fallen trees to another area. This wood was then used for firewood in the homes of people who could not afford to heat their homes in the winter. Since this wonderful experience, I have talked to the person who allowed me to put the wood on their property for those in need. He has told me to this day these people have been so grateful for this project. One family was burning pieces of paper in their home just to stay warm. This brought me to tears. I am very happy that I was able to serve those around me and help them stay warm.

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

Reese
Serving my Mission in Nashville Tennessee, a lot of people say "I'm saved by grace!" By grace are we are able to make it to heaven. Jesus Christ paid the price for all of our sins. His grace is sufficient. As members of the church has we work hard to live the commandments because as Brad Wilcox said in a BYU Devotional, "we are not earning heaven. We are learning heaven. We are preparing for it (see D&C 78:7). We are practicing for it.” Show more Show less
