Hi I'm Jonathan Kirkham

I grew up in Millcreek, Utah. I have been a Mormon my whole life. I am currently serving a full-time mission in New York City

About Me

I have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints since I was baptized at age 8, and was born into a Mormon family. I am currently serving as a full-time missionary in the New York New York North Mission. I have a passion for playing watching sports. I am an eagle scout. I will be attending the University of Utah when I return from my missionary service. I play the piano and would like to say I can sing! I like to eat good food, especially mexican food. I have 6 siblings, and love to hang out with them.

Why I am a Mormon

Because I have grown up in the church my whole life I have grown to love it. The example that my parents have set forth has been something that has led me to many good things. The church makes me happy and saying that I am a Mormon is something I am proud of because of what we stand for.

How I live my faith

Right now I am living my faith by serving a full-time mission in New York. I leave my family and home for 24 months and go to a place where I am assigned (New York) to spread the Gospel. We teach people, offer service, and help to build the church in this area of the world!

What is the priesthood?

Jonathan Kirkham
The priesthood is the power and authority to act in God's name for the salvation of his children. The priesthood gives us certain powers to perform ordinances that are essential in this life, but is also centered on service. The priesthood has been given to us on the earth so that we can serve other people and bring them to Christ. If we receive the priesthood and magnify whatever calling we are in then we receive Christ and through Christ, his father. As we serve others we are only in the service of God and that shows that we have received him in our hearts and have written his name on our hearts. The priesthood and our call to serve the priesthood is about service and coming closer to Christ with our brothers and sisters by our side. Show more Show less

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

Jonathan Kirkham
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is often called Mormons as a nickname. The official name is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but our church has gained the nickname of Mormon from a book of scripture called the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is a witness, or testament of Jesus Christ and we know it to be the word of God. The central figure in our worship is Jesus Christ and that is why the real name of the church is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Show more Show less
