Hi I'm Katie

I am a student, friend, wife, and daughter of God. I am an avid journal writer and a raised Oregonian. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love anything that has to do with people. I am a college student studying Communications. I have a passion for decorating, having bonfires, dancing, blogging, and re-reading Harry Potter books. I'm a newlywed to my colorblind best friend. Marriage is the best! We love to travel, explore, read, and try to cook (I'm not very good... yet). I'm minoring in French, and I love learning about everything that has to do with the Francophone culture. I love the language and I love hearing people speak it! I'm a lover of all things on the Oregon coast, especially Tillamook. I've never been to the east coast, but I'm an experienced west-coaster!

Why I am a Mormon

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the most optimistic thing I have in my life. I owe all of the blessings I have to this gospel. There is nothing like remembering that I am a daughter of God, created in His image, when I am struggling so deeply with my self worth. There is nothing like feeling as though I'm being hugged, full of love, as I pray to God. There is nothing like reading the Book of Mormon and finding the answers I so desperately needed. There is nothing like knowing that I can change and repent and be better through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ I am a Mormon because there is nothing - not even marriage, money, or professional successses - that brings me as much joy as the truthfulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Because of this gospel, I am even HAPPIER about my marriage, I find miracles in our finances through paying our tithing (10% of all our earnings given to the church), and I see my professional successes as blessings through living the gospel faithfully. My family is stronger because of the church. Everything in my life seems doable because I have God's love and the teachings of His prophets and personal promises through the temple that help me endure! Life doesn't just become perfect because of church, but it becomes a whole lot more enjoyable.

How I live my faith

I grew up in a place where there were about twenty other members at my high school, but only around four that I was close to. None of my closest friends were members of my faith. Something that I loved about my family was the feeling of unity, hope, and faith that we shared together in our home. My friends who were not Mormon were all able to recognize it. We shared the gospel through example. Now that I am away from my family and creating a new family with my husband, I get to live my faith through my personal example. I share the message of hope I feel with those who are struggling around me. I attend church (three hours of it!) every week and play games with my church friends. I blog about how much I love my church and the happiness it brings me. I love quotes - I'm a total quote collector - and I keep a book of my favorite Mormon quotes from our leaders that I can share with my friends. I "visit teach" my fellow Mormon women by bringing them a gospel message and check up on them. On the flip side - I get visited by my own "visiting teachers" who bring me an inspiring message (and sometimes a few cookies) and lift me and make me feel special!
