Hi I'm Thomas Kochan

I love to play guitar and any sport. I am the youngest of five kids and love my family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I like a ton of different things. I've been playing guitar since I was about fifteen. I like to spend a lot of my time playing outside and going on fun adventures. I love anywhere from hiking mountains to playing in the woods. I love to play video games and love going to the movies. The only thing I don't like is not having anything to do. As long as I am busy I am happy.

Why I am a Mormon

This is something I think about a lot. For me I am a Mormon because I cannot deny the love and power that comes from the Atonement of Jesus Christ. In my sins I've often felt unclean and guilty. Asking myself again and again you know, "why do we feel these sorrows?" Not that long ago that answer was revealed to me through a talk given by Elder Jeffrey R Holland in a talk titled, "Atonement and Eternal Marriage". It states, "Those who have never had a heartache or a weakness or felt lonely or forsaken never have had to cry unto heaven for relief of such personal pain. Surely it is better to find the goodness of God and the grace of Christ, even at the price of despair, than to risk living our lives in a moral or material complacency that has never felt any need for faith or forgiveness, any need for redemption or relief." I absolutely love this because it brought joy to my soul. We came to this earth to not only gain a body, but with it to experience so many new things like emotion. We needed to come to this earth to gain these experiences to become more like are Father in Heaven who wants so much for us to be happy. How can we know happiness if we don't know sadness. I love this gospel and this church. There is so much to experience, and learn. Being a Mormon has helped me so much and continues to help me strive to reach my full potential as a child of God.

How I live my faith

My last calling before I decided to serve a mission for the church was the "Stake Young Single Adult (YSA) Co-Chair". This calling focused on planning big multi stake events. The main event we planned was the Annual Summer YSA Conference that lasted three days over a weekend. It focuses on helping us bond as YSA and gives us opportunities to learn about our savior Jesus Christ. I love to meet new people. One thing that I really like about it is that I feel the Savior more fully as I reach out to new people and hear their experiences. I like to focus on being a good friend to everyone because I feel like that's what the Savior did. He didn't walk away from the sick, the blind, the lame, and the imperfect. He knew them and everything they were going through. He healed them and talked with them. He was their friend. When I get to go and talk with new people I like to think that I can help them feel loved and that they have a friend just like the Savior.
