Hi I'm Bria

"Always be a little kinder than necessary". I'm a missionary serving in Indiana. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hey, I'm Bria! I grew up in a mixed family: mom, stepdad, dad, stepmom, sister, brother, half sister, and stepsister. Crazy! And for the most part, we are all living pretty spread out, but we are all so close! Having this type of family has been hard for me in the past, but now I ADORE it! More people to love :) I haven't had your average life, but I've learned so much from having a 'different' family! I can't imagine having any other family than the one I'm blessed with. I love the idea of compassion and serving others who just really need a hand in life. And we all need help sometimes. Life is hard, but God is so good, you guys! That's why I work in a hospital. I've learned so much about true love for those you serve, and man I love it! I love being able to just do my part for those around me :) I'm an arts and crafts type of gal.. Pretty creative, when I try, I guess.. I am terrible at sports although I wish I was a pro soccer player sometimes. I love watching sports, I love seeing gross medical things ;) I love singing, although I'm terrible at that too.. And I am obsessed with traveling! Mexico and Ecuador have my heart right now, but I want to just go everywhere! .. Oh, and I like to read :) I'm really sarcastic, and jokey all the time! And I love to have fun, even if I'm making a fool of myself ;) I'm a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in Indiana. And I love the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Why I am a Mormon

There are so many reasons that I'm a Mormon, oh man! I was lucky enough to be born into the gospel although for a long time, without even realizing it, I kind of relied on the testimony of my mom rather than building up my own. I didn't take the time to really care about what the gospel meant to me, or even what it had to offer. In the middle of my Junior year of high school though, I had to face reality. We were reading the Book of Mormon as a Young Women, and I had been dragging my feet the whole time. I didn't understand. I was having trouble with my dad living in another state, and my brother having some issues, and I just felt alone. I felt completely forsaken and abandoned, and I got desperate. So I decided that I was going to pray, something I hadn't ever truly done by myself before this point. I honestly didn't even know if it would work for me. Oh man, does prayer work! Suddenly the scriptures made sense, and they became a story that I could learn from rather than just hear. I started to see that through all of the trials of faith in the scriptures, Heavenly Father was there for His children. He and the Savior, Jesus Christ, expressed so much love and compassion and mercy. And I started to NOTICE that unconditional love and companionship in my own life. It had always been there. I realized that when I felt alone and frustrated with my life, my Savior had always been there reaching out for my hand. I had just never understood that I needed to do the work, and reach out to Him in return. He has provided resources like the Bible and Book of Mormon for our benefit. I love this gospel and am a part of it, because I feel that everlasting love, no matter what my situation is. I can find solace in Him. I am able to know true joy, and have the knowledge that this is not all there is. I can be with my family for eternity. I can feel support and love even in the loneliest of times. I can ENDURE to the end, with the Lord on my side. Life is so hard, but GOD IS SO GOOD.

How I live my faith

I was Mia Maid and Laurel President in the Young Women organization in my ward, and I loved it! I love all my girls :) I have been Seminary class president a few times, and I am in religion classes at the Institute now while I'm in college. I'm serving my mission in the Indiana Indianapolis Mission! Which I am so psyched about! It's the best thing in the world :)

What is being a Mormon like?

I think a lot of misconceptions about being a Mormon come from thinking that it is a constraint, or it holds you back from doing 'fun' things. I have realized, in my life, that the lasting joy I receive is always related to the gospel. There are many things that would bring me temporary happiness, but that's just it. It's so temporary. I find everlasting, eternal joy in the gospel. As a Mormon, I am able to know the Plan of Happiness which tells me that I can be with my family for eternity. As a Mormon, I am able to find elation and solace in the Savior constantly. Because I dress modestly, I have a further respect for my body and I know my self worth more fully. Because I follow the Word of Wisdom, I am completely healthy. I also have so many blessings that I wouldn't otherwise recognize if I did not follow the commandments of my Heavenly Father. Being a Mormon is the best things that has ever happened to me. Through the church, I have come to know my divine potential, and through the struggle and opposition, I understand why. Why enduring to the end is so critical. What is being a Mormon like? It is amazing! It is hard work sometimes, but the best things in life never come easy. I promise that the work is worth it.
