Hi I'm Jeff Porter

I was born in southern California, I served a mission in the Eastern states, now I am a missionary w/ my wife Marilyn in Croatia

About Me

I am 64 years old and a graduate of Ricks College in Rexburg Idaho. I left there with a 2 year degree in business. I have been a self employed carpenter and general contractor all my life, and lived in Port Townsend, WA. for many of my years. My interests all center on many things outdoors, or on the waters, as well as trail riding with quads, the shooting sports and Harley Davidsons. I am married to a wonderful saintly women who is very near perfect in all ways, she spoils me rotten! And by the way, she loves riding on that Harley more than i do! Men, eat your hearts out! And she has blessed me with 10 amazingly wonderful kids, 6 daughters and 4 sons. And they have blessed us with 40 (and 2 in the hopper) surreal, really cute and adorably wonderful grand kids. I am now retired and live in southern Utah where life is really good! And lake Powell is only a couple hours away.

Why I am a Mormon

Why I am a member of The church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints? Its simple, its true! God does nothing among the children of men except he uses one of his prophets to accomplish that thing. He promised us all in the bible over 2000 years ago that he would restore his church back upon the earth just prior to his 2nd coming. In the year 1820 he called his prophet Joseph Smith. And the heavens were once again opened up and the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ was again established upon the earth for the final and last dispensation of time! If you want to know what the restored gospel of Jesus Christ should look like, then check out what it looked like when He himself established his church in the meridian of time. In the book of Ephesians in the bible it says, "and he gave some apostles and prophets etc." and on to mention all the rest of the priesthood positions "With Jesus Christ as the chief corner stone" . So also will you find the power of his Priesthood, the very power that Christ himself used to even create this very earth. In the true church you will find the Priesthood. In the interest of room to type, I will assume that you may already know of the Book of Mormon. Many and probably most all testimonies are found and based around this book of scripture. It has a devine promise attached to it that says that any man or women who will prayerfully read this book can have an answer to its truthfulness. The book was revealed to his prophet Joseph Smith, and he was instructed to translate it. If you take the time to read and put the promise to the test you will know for your self the truthfulness of this book, hence you will also know by default that Joseph is his prophet, and all else is of God! In closing I say to anyone that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true, it is here on the earth again! Don't pass it up, enjoy the blessings of his atonement for you, of the savior Jesus Christ!

How I live my faith

I was baptized into the church at the age of 8 with my 2 sisters after my mother discovered the church. The missionaries taught her the gospel and God answered her prayers as to the truthfulness of His restored church. She knew then that she wanted her kids raised there. Dad joined later on and thrieved in the gospel. At the age of 18 I questioned for myself the truthfulness of the church, I knew that I to needed to know for myself if it was true. I attended a youth conference up in the local mountains where I lived, and it was there that I had a very spiritual experience that formed the foundation of my testimony that this truly is the fullness of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. Like Moses, I to came down from the mountain a completely changed man. I knew what I had to do. I immediately picked up the Book of Mormon, read it, prayed to know of its truthfulness and the Lord let me know it was true! From there it was no looking back, I submitted my papers and left a few months later for my mission on the east coast of the U.S. Over my last 45 years I have filled many callings in the church at all levels. Some of them involving the young mens program and boy scouting which was a lot of fun. Its fun to know that the gospel is true and to serve and "feed the savior's sheep" as he commands us to do in the scriptures. And as we do these things He "over flows our cup" with blessings. God loves to do that, he loves to shower us all with blessings as we keep his commandments! Anyhow, to answer the question, we can only truly live our faith by loving and serving our fellow man. We can only keep the first greatest commandment of loving our God by doing the second greatest commandment, loving and feeding his sheep, that's how I live my faith.
