Hi I'm Marthe

I grew up in a Catholic and Mormon family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, but all I know is Texas. My father was born and raised in the Mormon faith in Utah while my mother is a Catholic convert. I am very happy to say I grew up in a wonderful Christian home. During all of my elementary school years I attended Catholic school as well as mass twice a week, I also attended Mormon church meetings such as Sacrament meeting, Sunday school and youth activities. I must admit our family life wasn't always easy, living in a duo-faith home. But I can honestly see God's hand in my family, the strength He gave us. We all had something, the most important thing, in common: faith in Jesus Christ. My mother is still Catholic today, and I love her very much. I appreciate her testimony of Jesus Christ, her love for me, her desires to make sure I go to school in a Christian environment and her support for me in my decisions, such as being baptized in the Mormon church and now, preparing to be a full-time missionary.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents really did a good job in teaching me how to see the Lord's hand in my life. Because of this, I always believed that I had a Heavenly Father and that He and His son, Jesus Christ, both love me and care about me. I've had many instances growing up where I've felt God's love and peace, such as while singing a children's church song, reading in the scriptures or listening to a teacher in Sunday school. What made me gain a sure knowledge of Jesus Christ, especially as I got older until today, was through reading the Book of Mormon, praying about, and trying to live by Christ's teachings. Reading the Bible and Book of Mormon has been like discovering a light that has illuminated my life. I would try to make good choices and also make mistakes, and I could see the blessings of trying to follow Jesus Christ. I have felt a love and joy so deep, unlike I have ever felt, from reading the scriptures. From Galatians 5:22-23, I know these feelings are from the Holy Spirit, telling me they are true.

How I live my faith

Following Christ's example of baptism and going to church every week to renew the promises I made at baptism, as well as learn Christ's way, is a big way I try to live my faith. These promises, found in D&C 20:77 & 79, aren't just promises to keep every Sunday, but everyday. I currently teach Sunday school for ages 7-8, the kids rock and I'm learning so much from them. We learn quite simple but very profound truths. I am leaving soon to serve as a full-time missionary in California. I look forward to humbly give a short 18 months of service to the people of California, and to my Heavenly father. As someone who has suffered from anxiety and depression, I want others who have these or similar struggles, to know that God wants them to be happy. He wants you to get all the help you can get, including professional. In my experiences, faith in Jesus Christ, faith in His love, mercy, meekness and His healing Atonement, have been the greatest help for me. Believe He can help you and make you whole. Scriptures, psalms, praying and hymns have all been healing as well. Living His Commandments is a pattern for a happy life. Striving to continually practice faith, hope and charity has been an excellent tool for me. Looking to Jesus Christ's grace has been the absolute key.
