Hi I'm Katy

I'm from Austin, TX. I'm a storyteller at heart. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the suburbs of Austin with six brothers and extended family scattered around the neighborhood. When I was 13, my dad got a job in Mojave Desert in California flying UAVs so we packed up and moved across the country. There I really discovered my love of writing and storytelling. Since then I moved to Utah to attend college for a degree in English Teaching. In the meantime, I keep busy hiking around the beautiful Utah Valley and thrift shopping to see what whacky clothes I can find.

Why I am a Mormon

I have felt Christ's love for me to abundantly in my life to turn away from it. I have always been a member of the Church but I haven't always been a believer. I remember having serious doubts about the LDS Church when I was a young teenager but I also remember taking the challenges given to me by my church leaders to read the Book of Mormon, to listen to the words of the prophet and apostles, and most importantly to pray to my Heavenly Father to know the truth. It could never hurt to try. Well, Heavenly Father is always listening and He answers those who come to him with pure intent and an honest desire for truth. The Holy Spirit manifested the truthfulness of the gospel to me and the love of my Father in Heaven and His Son, Jesus Christ, washed over me. And each time that I pray, each time I feel doubt creep in, the Spirit is there to tell me again.

How I live my faith

I live my faith every day. At moment I attend a ward for young single adults, meaning there aren't any married couples or young children in the congregation. It is a ward made entirely of my peers and we spend a lot of time strengthening and supporting each other in this crucial transitional stage in our lives. Together we share testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel and teach one another of the principles and doctrines of Christ. Even when I'm not at church surrounded by other members, I strive to live the commandments in my every day life. I try to smile at everyone I encounter and always have kind words to say. If I see someone in need, I try to stop and help. Mostly, I strive to live the way that Christ has taught me I should.
