Hi I'm Ashlyn

I grew up in Las Vegas, NV. I love to sing, tell stories, and spend time with my family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a university student studying English. I want to become an immigration lawyer and help people come to America. I currently have a mission call to Santa Fe Argentina. I am excited to teach the people in Santa Fe about the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it is a happy way to live. The gospel of Jesus Christ answers the questions which everyone asks at some point in their life: Where did I come from? Why am I here? Where am I going? Having the answers to those questions provides peace in this life, especially when times get hard. As I have learned to follow the commandments, I have experienced so much joy because I know that my Savior has made it possible for me to live with God again. It just gets better from here!

How I live my faith

I live my faith by attending church, serving, and attending the temple. Every Sunday I go to church to take the bread and water. This symbolizes my commitment to follow my Savior. I am also assigned by the bishop of the ward to take care of the women in my ward. I help to set up activities to help them get to know each other, and I often teach them about Jesus Christ in church. I also live very close to one of our beautiful temples, and I go there often to reflect on God's plan for my happiness.

How can faith in Jesus Christ influence us in our marriages and family relationships? in our friendships?

Faith is a principal of action. If one has faith in Jesus Christ, one acts according to His commandments. Following these commandments helps us to become better people. For example, when we follow his commandment to love one another, we become more loving toward those who matter most to us. When we follow His commandment to forgive, resentment and anger--which are so damaging to relationships--do not build up inside of us. Another commandment is the Law of Chastity which reserves sexual relationships for only a man and woman within the bonds of marriage. Commitment to complete fidelity, in both thought and action, strengthens a marriage. I have seen these principals work well in my own family. My parents are not perfect people. In the past, they have had to try really hard to make their marriage work. However, when they got married, they committed to keep God's commandments. They have learned to love and forgive. They have kept their commitment of fidelity and they have taught their kids how to do the same. Twenty years later, our family is closer than it has ever been. That said, things do not always work out like that, especially if both people in the relationship are not willing to change. However, I have a testimony that God can heal our broken hearts if we do our best and turn to him in fervent prayer for our loved ones. Show more Show less
