Hi I'm Greg Scarber

I was born and raised in Arizona. I play several instruments and enjoy making and producing music! I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a big fan of all things music, really. I spend a lot of my time listening to albums and making songs of my own. Recently, I've been working on sound engineering and mixing. Fun stuff! My favorite sport to play and watch is volleyball. I work at a movie theater, and soon I'll be leaving to serve a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints! After that, my plans are to attend college, start a band, and hopefully make music that people will enjoy.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church, but it hasn't been until recent years until I have really been converted by it. Many members of my family, including myself, have made personal choices that have hurt them and others badly. As I've seen it happen time and again, my testimony of living the standards of the Gospel has grown. It has taken me a long time to understand it, but the Gospel is here to give us happiness and bring us peace. Gordon B. Hinckley summed it up best when he said, "Life is to be enjoyed, not just endured." Living the Gospel makes enjoying life easier, as well as enduring life easier. Living the standards is a sacrifice, definitely, but if it brings us peace in this tumultuous life, isn't that sacrifice worth it? At its base, the Gospel is centered around love. Not petty love, but true, honest, forgiving charity. It is because of love that we show kindness to others. It is because of love that we take care of our bodies (often we forget that we must also show love to ourselves). It is because of our love for God that we read the scriptures and pray to Him. It is because of love that we forgive those who have wronged us. It is because of love that they forgive us. It is because of love of our fellow man that we obey the laws of our countries. It is because of love that we work to help our families be the best that they can be. Never underestimate love. If we all tried to love more, this earth would be a happier place. I am a Mormon because I have felt the joy that love can bring into not only our own lives, but others' lives as well. I am not perfect by any means, but the Gospel is teaching me how to love others. I could never go against something that pure.

How I live my faith

I try my best to live my faith by preparing to serve a mission. I attend what is called 'mission prep' class every Sunday morning at 7 A.M. There we discuss ways to invite the Spirit and teach. After that, I go to church for a couple hours. Here I can partake of the sacrament, be taught lessons, and hear talks that can help strengthen my testimony of this beautiful Gospel. During the week, I live my faith by studying the scriptures, praying, and once again preparing to serve a mission. I also attend what is called 'Institute', which is a class that teaches and clarifies church doctrine. I know that it can be hard to stay on top of this... All of us end up busy through work and school, but it is important to remember that our faith cannot be lived only on Sunday.

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Greg Scarber
Of course we do! Because we also believe in the Book of Mormon, I think many people make the misunderstanding that we do not believe in the Bible as well. The Bible gives us countless treasures and lessons on how to live the Gospel. It is the word of God, so we believe in it. The Book of Mormon does not disprove the Bible in any way, shape, or form. It is meant to exalt and reinforce the Bible, it is meant to further build our testimonies in God and His Son, Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
