Hi I'm Scott Myers

I'm a Mormon. It's great.

About Me

I have an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) and interests in business and law, specifically intellectual property and patents. I enjoy swapping secrets, philosophical discussions, rooting for hated teams amongst die-hard sports fans, arguing for the sake of arguing, re-reading books that continue to entertain and enlighten, writing words that need to be written--not words that need to be read, doodling with stick figures, pondering ponder-some things, and listening to all manner of musics. Learning makes me happy. I like to see the mountains and beach, but I am less inclined to live in them. I prefer cold weather when I'm hot, and hot weather when I'm cold. I aspire to be a body beat boxer--if you can rap, I can give you a beat. I consider myself to be gullible, and occasionally sarcasm flies over my head. Misbehaving technology brings out the worst in me. As a child, I wanted to be an ice-cream truck driver. As an "adult" out of university, I better appreciate wanting to be an ice-cream truck driver as a child. I am currently serving as a missionary in the Canada Toronto Mission. Although I never originally wanted or intended to serve, I've never regretted it, and I've never felt more peace.

Why I am a Mormon

Jesus Christ has saved me from more than I can describe or understand. And He continues to save me. I love Him, and I know that He loves me. He's loved me from the foundation of this world. He'll love me into eternity. It is precisely because He loves me that I love him. And with that understanding comes the enormous, personal debt of love that fills my heart: I owe Him everything. There are many things I struggle with, but I am learning how to give more of myself to Him. And the best part about that is He helps me every step of the way. I have learned through the Holy Spirit that this is His church and that it contains the fullness of His gospel. I have seen (and continue to see) the miracles and blessings of following Him--the hope, light, and love that I feel. There is so much joy that I experience now, which was absent from my life for years. And I am serving a mission because I CAN'T NOT share that with others.

How I live my faith

I am on a personal quest to live with God again by following the example set by Jesus Christ. I fail daily, but I am learning how to depend more on my Savior and His Atonement in overcoming my weaknesses and being cleansed of my iniquities. I have promised Him all that I am and all that I ever can be, and I intend to fulfill that promise. As I strive to live the gospel of Jesus Christ--to love and serve our Heavenly Father and His children--and as I truly depend on the Lord to be the difference in my life, I come closer to that eternal goal one step at a time.
