Hi I'm Edgar Alexis Columna

Hey! My name is Edgar, I was born in the Dominican Republic and I am studying at Brigham Young University!

About Me

I am 18 years old and I study at BYU and I am about to serve my two year mission for the Church. Being from a non-member household and being a first generation college student, the church and my college education are two of the biggest blessings I've received in my life. I love writing and performing spoken word poetry, playing baseball and hanging out with my friends. I hope to study pre-med and entrepreneurship so that one day I can give back to countries that are in need of help.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I was blessed with the opportunity to receive the restored gospel from a missionary and representative of Christ. I along with my grandmother were baptized into the church, I was 8 years old and went to church on Sunday because that's what I accustomed to do. After a while I began to realize that the only reason I was still a member of the church was not because of Habit but because I had a desire to learn more. I had stopped going to Church because my grandmother was not there to go with me, but I had continued going because of the missionaries. It was a Friday night during February a couple of years ago, I was riding on a crowded subway on my way downtown to hang out with my friend. I had heard the ring of my phone notifying me I had received a message from someone, as I looked to see who it was from, the name seemed vaguely familiar. I read the message and was almost brought to tears it read along the lines of : "Hello Edgar, I wanted to congratulate you on your acceptance to Brigham Young University, I am very proud of you and wanted to tell you to continue on this good route, I know you can accomplish great things. You probably don't remember who I am because the last time I was in your house you were about 4 or 5 years old causing trouble around the apartment. Well I am the missionary who baptized your grandmother..." This was the moment that I realized how big of an impact we have on each other and the world. Because of this man I had such an amazing life in the church, because of his decision to serve for two years had completely changed mine. That is why I am going to serve a mission for the church, because I do not know who's life I will change and who's life won't be blessed because I didn't serve. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and there is not a shred of doubt in my mind that Jesus died and atoned for the sins of man and that this is his church and his restored gospel on the earth today.

How I live my faith

I am a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, that means that I have had a slightly different experience than those born into the church. Although I joined the church at a different time that has had no effect on my faith and my love for Jesus Christ, God and my fellow men. I plan activities for my church that I attend in college, and I believe that through these activities I help bring people not only together but to God.
