Hi I'm Mekkena

I was born and raised in Utah. I love lions, Disney and Wheat Thins. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a freshman in college and want to major in Family Studies/Social Work. I have a passion for dancing and have done it for most of my life. I enjoy dancing ballroom, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, hip hop and modern! I have a love for everything Disney! If I could travel anywhere in the world, it would be Scotland. I'm sarcastic and love to spend time outside and with my family! I love warm, sunny weather and hikes are the best. Family and friends are my world and I wouldn't trade them for anything!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the LDS church and was raised that way until I turned 8. I then decided that I wanted to be baptized and become an official member of the church. For a while I just went through the motions of being a member of the church because that's what my family did; that's what I was used to. It was normal. As I grew older and became a young women I realized that I had the wonderful blessing of agency. (The ability to choose for myself and make my own decisions) Although I grew up this way and never knew any other lifestyle of living, the things I had learned to that point I knew were true things. I believed that the Gospel of Jesus Christ was true. As time went on, I went through trials and tribulations that tested my faith in Jesus Christ. Things happened that made me second guess. But every single time, I always felt that I was loved by my Father in Heaven and his son Jesus Christ. Life will always bring you trials and heart ache, but having the foundation and knowledge that I have a Savior who loves me and wants the best for me is what keeps me going. Why am I a Mormon? I am a mormon because the Gospel of Jesus Christ brings me peace and comfort in times of need. I can pray to my Heavenly Father and he will hear me. Because I have read the Book of Mormon and have prayed to know if it is true. It is. It is the truest book and gives me so much guidance and direction. Because I have a Savior who suffered for my sins and heart ache. Because I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet and restored the gospel on our earth today. I know that he saw Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Because of the Plan of Salvation, I know that families are forever and that we can be sealed in the temple for time and all eternity instead of until death do us part. I know that the Lord knows us better than we know ourselves and if it is His will it should be our will also. I have faith in the faith that Christ has in me. I love my Heavenly Father and I am a happy Mormon!

How I live my faith

I have served in my young women's presidency as well as in Seminary presidencies. I currently serve as the Family Home Evening co-chair in my singles ward and I absolutely love it! I didn't at first, but as I served the members of my ward I achieved a love for my service as well as for them specifically. I plan weekly activities for everyone to come to and spend a good time together. We do service activities, game nights, traveling activities and many other wonderful things! And we always have yummy food for afterwards! It's such a fun time! I have wonderful home teachers that are always making sure I am doing okay and are always offering service to me as well as giving me priesthood blessings when I need them. They come every once in awhile to my home just to visit and ask if they can do anything for me. They share hard experiences with me and I with them. We give each other real life advice and they are always bringing the spirit into my home. They are wonderful examples and I am very grateful for them. I also have wonderful visiting teachers who also are consistently checking up with me and making sure everything is going well. These sisters are also such wonderful examples. I myself also visit teach other sisters and enjoy my service doing so. I learn so much every time and its a wonderful opportunity to help others in need and as if this wasn't enough, I am also blessed myself by serving others.

Who is the Mormon prophet today?

Mekkena
Our modern day prophet today is President Thomas S. Monson. I know that he receives modern day revelation for our church and is a witness of Jesus Christ. He leads and guides our church and gives us guidance on the things that the Lord would have us know for our specific time. He is an example of the Savior Jesus Christ and emulates him incredibly well. He loves every single one of us and does his absolute best to run our church the way the Lord would have him do. I love him very much and know the things he teaches are true. Show more Show less
